[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This path leads under the North Falls (yesterday's posting). To my eye the scene looked neat, moody, and a little spooky, however the high contrast looked like a problem. I had been reading about HDR processing and had tried one in the back yard. So I thought this was the perfect location and lighting. So if you have time read on.

PP: Started with three images with EV's of +1, -1, and -1.67 (actually I shot 5 images but these three look to have the best range). I opened the images in Bridge > to Camera RAW, made minor adjustments to all three images and opened them in CS3. I have discovered I have to size the images because my D300's image size of 9.5 X 14.25 resolution 300 really bogs down my computer when processing in HDR. So resized to approximately 8 X 5. Then File>Automate>Merge to HDR. I made basic adjustments within the HDR process. Converted to 16 Bit and adjusted with Levels and Shadows/Highlights. Sharpening was another experiment. Go to http://pacificnw.naturephotographers.net/tips/photoshop.htm
for a detailed explanation. But basically resize to twice the size of the final image (1600) and click on Filter>Sharpen>Sharpen 2 or 3 times. Then resize the image to the size (800) for posting on the web. Framed for posting.

Hi Daniel

Good sharpness, & nice repetition of the vertical tree trunks. The red earthed path at right, provides fine lead in lines. Tfs!

Result is superb and i like the note. I find it very instructive.

Thanksssss

Marc

Absolutely beautiful work. Great color and details. your note is amazing very informative. TFS

hi dan, i think this is a great one to conduct such an experiment which looks like it worked, these dappled light shots as you know are hard to expose properly, you have kept decent exposures on dark and light with the merge of 3 images, looks great,
tfs,
scott

The HDR gives this extraordinary depth and richness, and clearly the photographer new a good shot when he saw it:) Beautiful backlight and dappled shadows, with a well managed composition for an inviting look down the path. Excellent!

Oh boy I REALLY like this Daniel! You defeated the dreaded contrast problem wtih HDR. I think you did a great job here, love the rich colors and the little bit of blue behind the tree keeps pulling me in! I like this alot!!
