"The Christus" is an 11-foot carrara marble statue sculpted by Albert Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770-1844).
The Christus was completed in 1839 and stands today in the Church of Our Lady in Copenhagen, Denmark.
This faithful replica can be seen at the visitors center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Salt Lake City Utah.
Thorvaldsen's statue of the resurrected Christ helps present LDS belief in Jesus Christ, the son of God and redeemer of the world. It stands in a rotunda before a mural of the universe to show that "by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created" (D&C 76:24). |
