[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Pictured is the entrance to Seattle's Pioneer Building, which marks the heart of the city's early commercial development. Completed in 1892, this red brick and terra cotta was one of the finest examples of architect Elmer Fisher's work. It was the "premier" office address in Seattle in the 1890s, and was home to 48 different mining firms during the time of the Klondike Gold Rush of 1897.

During Prohibition, the building housed Seattle's "finest speakeasy", but later, as the city's business core moved northward the Pioneer Building and surrounding neighborhood fell into decay. After languishing for decades, the area experienced a renaissance in the 1970s.

The neighborhood was designated as a historic district and in 1978 the Pioneer Building gained National Historic Landmark status, recognizing their significant role in the history of Seattle.

Tech: In PS CS3, I skewed the building slightly to straighten it, adjusted levels and saturation. Increased contrast by applying the unsharp mask filter (15/65/0), then sharpened (70/0.7/1).

spectacular place... spectacular picture... love perspective and detail!... mabye one stop less exposed can correct the "too much white" in the windows... just a personal opinion!.. congratulations

Santiago

Great shot. The building in it self looks beautiful.
Great colours and so much detail.
I've always liked the perspective and symmetry of these kind of shots. They often have a great geometric compostion like this photo here.
Sometime you can also achieve a graphical illusion like here. If you look long enough it looks as if the photo is wider at the top than at the bottom.
I think your exposure is perfect here. You've kept some shadow and some highlights. I don't know how to maintain detail in both shadow and highlight without using HDR processing. So it comes down to a choice of what to keep - shadows, highlights or a little of both. I think you made the right choice here.

Great shot!

Cheers,
Jens

Hi Robert,
Nice perspective of this building, captures the character of the architecture beautifully. Good colour, lighting and textures.
Thanks Robert on your input with the "Lunatic Fringe"....oh man, they are too much.
My kindest regards,
Peter.

Hi Bob,
I like the architectural details that you've captured around this doorway.
Good eye, and nice post-processing.
Take care,
Karen
