[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Henna Art decoration of hands and feet are an integral part of any festive occasion in South East Asia. Young women wear colorful clothes to go along with the decor. Many families of Indian origin in the USA still get together for Henna decoration parties before weddings, engagements, Eid or Diwali.
Henna paste is put in small conical tubes of paper and squeezed through a small opening at the tapered end which delivers a measured amount of henna paste in a thin or thick line. The artist knows the design by memory and the subject has to hold still for the duration of execution of the art work. The paste dries in 3-4 hours and falls off the hand but the stain left of the design remains for 2-3 days enough for the period of the festivities. I photographed this young girl's hand after the paste was applied and I could sense the excitement and happiness in her face.
