She's very cute, I like the dimples. The image isn't all that strong though, although her face is captured quite nicely. The distracting background, particularly the car, isn't the most appropriate for a good portrait. Why don't you try a tight square format for this image?

Philip, great photo of your wife. As mentioned in your own note, the background is a little distracting, but her face with those dimples and the vibrant colour of the scarf, makes any distraction away from her miniscule.
I, too, recently bought a DSLR and am having a blast. Enjoy the new camera.
Merry Christmas to you and your wife.
Cheers,Todd

Hi Philip
The face is a beauti... a bit overexposed and then when it is reduced, the fault is also enhanced.. You have to use photoshop to do this... Also get the portrait settings for your camera at Nikonians... or give me a shout and I will send it to you.

Her expression says it all. And I agree, your wife is very beautiful. For a quickly snapped shot, excellent. I am thinking about a DSLR myself so I will check the Nikon D80 out.

Hi Philip,
Well done on the portrait of your wife, she's photo genic.
Thinking about your background will help in the overall presentation. Some speculated highlights, not bad though.

You said you would have picked a better background. What background are you talking about? All I see is your lovely wife.
Seriously though, I think you framed the picture nicely and the shallow depth of field kind of hides the background anyway. Thanks for sharing.

Very good "spur of a moment" caught and I think, the background is very appropriate. I wish both of you and the rest of your family happy holidays and a happy New Year! Irina

Wow great looking wife she looks happy makes a difference to the expression when the photographer has a relationship with the subject nice DOF and background blur exposure looks like it was handled well and composed perfectly with a bit of negative space. Well done Best rgds Necip.

What a cutie Jessica is! I love the pic and agree with Jigz. Who notices the background when you have captured such a nice shot of such a beautiful wife? Good job Phil! God's best,
