Taken about a month ago here in Washington State. She was fairly natural in front of the camera as you can see. Some of my favorite portraits are taken in urban areas like this one. For some reason I really enjoy shooting with a wide open aperture because of the extreme depth of field.
-I used my 50mm f1.8 as it is a great portrait lens.

Well Katie is lovely, and good choice on the lens there. 50MM does make a good portrait lens, you just have to get a tad bit closer than with say a 70MM.
But your right, lots of DOF and very nice natural lighting. Well composed. Good shot!
Hi Philip
The DOF is certainly good, it's a great lens with a great result. I do though have to say that Katie doesn't look quite as relaxed as she could. She's pretty - lovely eyes - but there is a tension in her mouth and a mistrust in her expression, at least from my perspective. The pose also looks a little forced?
Good composition though and good low-saturation treatment.

Very nice! I mostly disagree with the comments made by Rew regarding the subject's demeanor. I like your choice on the composition. Keep up the good work and as always, God's best!
