Hi Philip, I do not like your picture. This that you call self defence has caused many unwanted and useless tears due to wanted and unwanted accidents.
I feel sorry for you that you feel that you must defend yourself with a gun. Your life cannot be too happy!
The self defence with weapons has caused many and many more evil in the world.
One suggestion: keep these pictures in your file, do not brag about them!
I'm surprised to read what I read from a person who was due to enter the ministry.

Hi Philip,
I don't think weapon (even for self defense....) is a good solution. I must say that in your note you wrote "God bless", I don't think God (if it exist) would be happy of the violence and the wars.... Violence has not to be a response to the others violence...

True that it's look very small! Technically why the bullets have flat heads like this... I imagine the impact will be less deep but more destructive around.

The fact that your in the army not surprise me so much. Here the legal weapon are only one for hunt. I know in states it is very permissive.. too much perhaps :)
But that kind is not so much in circulation for civils?

Well, let me be the first to actually provide a critique of the photo...I like the graphic quality of the image, the black & white look to the weapon itself, and the stark shadows against the white background. The trio of bullets in the corner - with their bright color and resulting shadows - provide a natural place for the eye to fall.

But of course no matter how good or bad a photograph is technically, one cannot separate the image from the content, or subject matter. Guns are like any other object, they can be used for good or evil. A big part of the objections you have received is the result of the cultural differences between the U.S. and other countries, and maybe it's not a bad thing to explore those differences in a forum like TrekLens (maybe TrekEarth would have been a more fitting forum within the Trek "family" as it's devoted to learning about the world through photography).

In any case, your photo is a good one, Philip. Keep up the good work.

Psssst time out we are talking Photography here not Politics.The picture is sharp and it looks cool(still to life).I love guns too and i use to hunt, I shoot 9mm Trojan for target Practice.By the way, Cameras are like Guns too could be Good or Bad.For people who use it for pornogragphy...think about it:)

i'm not for or against guns...i'm neutral...
i like this photo though, i guess its because its somthing that i don't hav a chance to do cause in my country, guns are not allowed, you can't even find bullets here :)

Hi Philip,
Looks like you’re upsetting a lot of our viewers here. I like you’re picture and have nothing against weapons. And that’s coming from someone living in a country where it is illegal to own a plastic replica unless it’s pink, bright orange or some other strange color. And yes I do have a technical question: why the flat heads?

Interesting shot. Sharp and clear. I believe it would improve the picture if you had taken the picture of the complete weapon. It is slightly chopped off. The subject of guns is very controversal. I have two that I have not even looked at them for many years, souvenirs from WWII.

Technically is a good photo, may be a bit overexposed. Regarding other comments in my opinion, politicians and their modern wars have no deal with holding a weapon for self-defense; I said modern wars because in our days is very difficult to know the real reasons of a war. Jesus Christ said: ”If you haven't sword, sell your coat and buy sword”.

As a human, i understand the evolution and what comes with it. War, will always be in the world, for good for bad, just a natural process. Hear this song, its a good one "we need a war" from fischerspooner...

as a photo i love everything about this one...it is simple and artistic...great composition and exposure...as far as the subject i am neutral...i think like most things in this world that are controversial in the hands of the right person guns are good...but in the hands of the wrong person guns are very bad...thanks for sharing...i enjoyed reading what everyone wrote and your replies...very interesting...peace***

I guess, breasts, nipples, belly buttons, pubic hairs are allowed and have no contreversial statements from anyone, show a pistol, all the activists come out of their closets. LOL
Photographicaly, there's nothing wrong with this posting, nicely done, excellent composition and details.

What politics? I see none, calm down everyone, grow up.

Yes it's me again, i just couldn't resist to put my small words in here. Like fisher said: come on people, let's all grow up now, everybody has his meaning and you need to respect that. and when anyone uses a weapon for self-defense or to help other people to get them out of trouble you sould need to respect that even more because when you have the guts to do that for another you're a good person. I know war is bad, but it's only bad when it is not helping anyone else and you have to hurt them instead of lots of innocent people. i know i''m only sixteen and i know not much about politics and all those kind of things.
And now about the picture:D I really like the form of it and all those details on it. great sharpness too.
