Crawling around rocks in the Checkerboard Mesa area of Zion National Park was a lot of fun. The skies were extremely clear that day, so I focused more on using the lines in the rock and trying non traditional angles to create more abstract compositions.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ZionNational-Park.com

Entering Zion National Park from the east side, one of the first sites to catch the eye is Checkerboard Mesa. The east section of Zion National Park is known as "slick rock" country. This side of the park is a place where the rocks are a mixture of white and varied tints of brown or orange. This is a result of minimal iron-oxide compared to other layers of sandstone. The slickrock section of Zion National Park showcases the powerful effects of erosion over a great period of time.

Hi Vincent...great shot..you manage to capture the depth of the scene exceptionally well. perfect light and details. Nice work. Are you getting greater detail in these long exposures? Especially with your water scenes the long exposures seem to be working very well. But even in a shot like this it seems to make a difference...what do you think?

Roger

Hi Vincent,
Thanks again for sharing this fantastic landscape. The clarity of the sky is perfect, contrast is very good on the photo. The rocks are sharp and have wonderful warm colours. The perspective is stunning as well, these elements have extraordinary geometric shapes. Well done, TFS.
Have a nice weekend!

Hi Vincent,
a lovely photo. As you say, very abstract. A full crop of the sky to just show the layered rock formations would also have worked really well. Great job.

Hello Vincent
A strong perspective and a great sharpnes of all these lines in the rock, and a superb light control with a great shadows capture create an impressive and powerful image.
Congrats, mb

Great place - superb subject matter! I love the detail and the deep field of focus you've achieved here.

It leaves me wishing a little for a sense of scale, one of those things that's impossible to judge - it could be five metres to the top of that tower, it could be two hundred!

Nice lines and beautiful colour, dear Vincent.
Good sharpness and wonderful rocks.

Ciao,
Lara

Hello Vincent,

Hi Vincent,

Super photo, great detail and lovely layers, this would also be a cracker in black and white with a red filter to darken the sky.

this your another masterpiece, Vincent. it would certainly an editor's choice for a landscape photo. it's so superb a presentation with nice details and textures.
the lines on the rock wall at the FG are lead-in-lines to the pinnacle at the BG.
the vertical format is just perfect to give the deserved space for your subject in the FG.

well done

Hi Vincent,
I do have a picture of this same Checkerboard Mesa hanging in my home office, taken from an analog cam from many years back. I do like the textured abd well focused rocks shown from years of erosion. A most engaging composition, the glimpse of blue sky enhances the image. My compliments. Danilo

Another interesting and creative capture Vincent. I am always amazed at the detail you capture and so much depth to your images. Do you do any cropping so you get this perfect composition? I do not have that lens and you make me want to get it, but I doubt I could get images such as these even if I had it. Beautiful.
Warmest Regards
Wanda

Great POV for an up-close-and-personal feel of being able to reach right out and touch the rock surface in the foreground! I like being able to observe the textures and details all the way up to the top rock formation, including the interesting holes in the layers. Well done:)

I'm without word ! So nice details and a variety of amber tones. Thanks Vincent to bring us your quite special views of this nature.

Hi Vincent,

A place to dream, to let the rock tell stories of thousands upon thousands of years of history.

It must have been magical to walk around in a place like this.
Excellent capture of those lines and well chosen point of view to make it seem even more impressive in it's height.

Why did you need such a long exposure on such a sunny day combined with F11? did that provide you with better texture in the rockface?

TFS
Els
