[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Once upon a time, in another life, I did some freelance photography work for many years. I was a wedding photographer and a children's photographer and also did a few freelance things. I loved every minute of it..especially the weddings. Very few photographers actually enjoy a wedding shoot, but I did. I traveled as far as Salt Lake City to photograph my best friend's daughter's wedding. My joy in life was seeing the smile on the faces of those when seeing their photographs or those of their child. To know that I was able to bring some happiness that would last a lifetime to someone was all the payment I needed. I have always taken pictures and given to others and only in the past few years have I devoted my love of photography to myself. A tragic event in my life brought a sudden and unexpected halt to my freelance skills and to my photography skills as a whole, but that is not a story for here.
Today I thought I would share with you one of my favorite portraits. Meet Erin. She is the daughter of one of my best friends. I took her Senior Portraits for her way back in 1994 and this is one of them. She is still a beautiful, high-spirited girl with very "flirty" eyes.
This portrait, and many others that I have during that joyful period of my life, bring back wonderful memories for me. Days of freedom, sunshine, unquenchable thrist for life and the foolish joy in believing that nothing bad can ever happen to you.
Please enjoy a side of me that you never knew about. I am pleased to share it with you now. Oh, please don't think I was a "professional" in any way, as you all know that just couldn't be possble from the photos you have seen me post here....I just did something I enjoyed to the fullest in doing and so grateful I had the opportunity in my lifetime to look back now and know that I once could do it....
*********************************************
Tech: Scanned original print, used NI, adusted color and contrast levels and removed scratches and blemishes from scanned image. Added a touch of background color with paintbrush, sized in four steps for web, texted Erin's name on photo, framed and signed.

Stop by and let me know how you are today and leave me a note. I love to hear from you. You each make my day worthwhile.... :O)

Kathleen!

What a great shot!

THIS is what photography is all about. Doing what makes YOU happy, and bringing joy to others when you can give them something like this shot in return.

Thanks for sharing!

As usual a moving story from you, Kathleen.
A sad one though, too... I only hope for you that, maybe in a different way, todays life might give you the same feelings of joy and happiness, as you have experienced in the past...

As for the photo, it a very cheerful picture, makes one want to have a conversation with this girl!
Beautiful eyes and a smile which is contageous...

Beatiful shot - my only comment would be the leave out the name - her comehither eyes tell us all we need to know her.

Good lighting - especially under the brim of the hat which isn't easy.

David

Excellent. very beautiful model also. Congrats

Pretty girl, Pretty smile, Good shot, Wonderful, touching story. Need I say more? Your work speaks for you.

very joyful and happy picture!

A beautiful picture taken by a great photographer. Kathleen, don't put yourself down, you are very good at what you do, and it seems that you always have been. I think photography is in your blood. Your photos and notes are something that I look forward to each time I log onto TL.
Thanks for posting and sharing a little part of you with all of us.
Take care and be well.

A also did a wedding for my brother-in-law and it succeeded very well, but I think, I won't do it again...
Nice to read something about you....
And the portrait, it's a nice one, a very good light, clear and sharp, but I would not have the "name" in it, but's that's personnal.

I can see you were really talented way back then. This is a lovely portrait of your fiend's daughter. I like her pose with her head tilted downwards. Very nice.

Your comments are as pleasant as your pictures...

Beautiful portrait Kat, your experience as a photographer shows through your other posts and this one, thank you for sharing your story with us.

Hi Kathleen, I hope you won't mind me saying this, but either the photographer or her subject must have had a thing about Princess Di in those days. I don't know if it's the hat, the poise, the smile or a natural talent for flirting with a camera - but it's there. Your story is very touching and I think a few of us are looking forward to some of those shots.
On a technical level I am sure something could have been done to improve the apperance of her skin after scanning. I hope a workshop will show up - if not, I'll give it a try.

Nice and special effect in here... I like it! ;)

Very good composition. I like the placement of your model in the frame. And I envy your for trying to do what you like to do. Personally, I would like to do what you did too but I don't have the time and the courage to do so. I have to work as a teacher to finance my travels and photography. Maybe a sabbatical in a few years from now. But Asia is not a very good market. Well, well....I am dreaming once again.

Very good diagonal used here, the eyes are just that what you wrote. In reply to your very good note I can only make you smile (I hope) so I did a WS, noting technical, just because.
