[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Possibly the most unique gas station in the USA, the Teapot Dome Gas Station was built in 1922 in Yakima, Washington. Ten years later, it was moved to Zillah, Washington which is 20 miles southeast of Yakima in the lower Yakima Valley. The Teapot Dome can be seen from Interstate 82.

It is a 15' tall, round building with a conical roof, sheet metal handle and concrete spout.

The intent behind the teapot shape was a humorous reference to the Teapot Dome scandals that rocked President Warren G. Harding's administration in the 1920s.

The Teapot Dome originally sold oil products and continues to sell gas today. It fell on hard times for many years until it was restored in the mid-1980s. It is listed among the USA's National Historical Landmarks.

This is the opposite view of this service station from the one I posted on TE a while back. My name on TrekEarth is "sodypop."

God's best to you, Tim

Fascinating shot! Most petrol (gas) stations are a rather more simplistic design, this one is quite fascinating - I'm glad it's a listed landmark, hopefully it'll survive for generations to come! I think if I'd been taking this shot I've have tried to get a bit closer to remove the grass from the foreground, and possibly move slightly to the left to remove the shade/lamp from the left hand edge. Nevertheless you've captured the petrol station's essential essence (sorry couldn't resist the pun), and it's a fascinating image! Thanks for sharing :-D

Good to see you over here as well, Tim, and of course I recognize this wonderful gas station. It also looks great from the opposite side, and you got a fine shadow from the way in which the light falls upon the station. A nice and colorful first posting from you here on TL.

A side note on the gas price - I think $1.799 a gallon is already more on the pricey side judging from the average price I saw in the U.S. during the last couple years. However, over here we are at 1.08 Euros a liter which is about $3.40 a gallon with the current exchange rate between $ and Euro ...

Oh great to see that fine "tea pot" from the other side - surely an unique and special building - and also a place which gives memories of history.

I noticed the blue sign - it can't be the price of gasolin - unless of course its the price per gallon ?

This is good, this is funny, thank you for sharing

Hi Tim, this is a great photo, nice composition and great colours very sharp and detailed, I enjoyed the note.
Well done Tim.

hihi !!! mimi la photo, bien vu, c'est ordinaire,
un cliché marrant, belles couleurs , bien nette,
merci pour le partage de l'humour...bi

I've got to agree, this is the most unique gas station I've ever seen. The photo brings out the vibrant color and detail in the tiles as well as much cheaper gas prices. Great photojournalism style.

Interesting angle for this photo, I like how the trees in the background provide a soft feathery touch. The blue sign with the price is a nice touch, will make it more of a historic photo years from now when we're paying much more. The colors are sharp and clear, and the subject is very eye catching.
Well done.
