| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I live a few days' drive from the ocean, so I have seen it only four times in the five decades of my life. Still it holds a fascination for me and I wonder whether my sea-faring ancestors' blood really does speak to me in my dreams.
I took this photo within a few minutes of arriving in Los Osos, still travel weary after two and a half days on the road and in the air. But already the salt air was reviving me.
If *you* can put a name to any part of what you see, I would be grateful. For, by naming things, we gain control over them. Until then, this image still has a hold over me, calling me to return.

Hallo Silke,
Das Bild zeigt was im Meer lebt.
Ein sehr gutes, klares, Bild wo die Korallen und die Algen sehr schön zu sehen sind.
Gruß.

Hi Silke,
You could spend forever trying to name all these things.
Great capture.
TFS.

ciao Silke,
I believe the long dark brown tube in the lower right is a type of sea kelp. I would be wrong about the name, but it grows in tall "forests" from the seabed. At the Aquarium in Monterey, California they have huge tall acquariums where you can actually see the plants grow to a very high height. Wish I could tell you more, but while I see many of these sea objects on the beaches in California, I don't know the names of many of them.
I was once on an outing to explore animal and plant life in the tide pools and one person found a very small octopus and held it in his hand, which was a real "trip" for me because I had never seen anything like that so close up, except in movies. I'm originally from the state of Iowa, very very far for the ocean, though I have lived in California now many years.
Keep shootin'!
Richard
