Sanctuary

My favorite part of shooting abandonments is the transition of color, like here, as I go from one dark room to another that is lit by the sun. It is like finding a sanctuary within a tomb, an oasis of light in a box full of darkness.
It is easy to imagine the previous occupants enjoying the same views...
This photo is from last year, but I came across it this afternoon while going through old files trying to come up with a web graphic idea. I was hooked by the color, and after I tweaked it a little (levels, very slight correction for barrel distortion), I decided to share it.
This is another shot from Sanger, one of North Dakota's most infamous ghost towns. This particular one has a promising fate compared to most of the others, however, as it sits on state managed land across from Cross Ranch State Park.
Many other historical structures and ghost towns are simply left to be demolished or forgotten.

nice work with the colors and tricky lighting...i knew this was one of yours as soon as i saw the thumbnail...you captured great texture...peace***
Nice texture, I assume the door is crooked because one side's straight and the other's crooked, LOL. (Used to be a carpenter at one time so I know how it goes.)
