[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I believe this is a monarch butterfly. But it could be a Viceroy butterfly which has evolved to look like the poisonous monarch that predators will avoid him too!

The monarch butterfly is sometimes called the "milkweed butterfly" because its larvae eat the plant. Milkweed is the only thing the larvae can eat. Most predators have learned that the monarch butterfly makes a poisonous snack. The toxins from the monarch's milkweed diet have given the butterfly this defense. In either the caterpillar or butterfly stage, the monarch needs no camouflage because it takes in toxins from the milkweed and is poisonous to predators. Many animals advertise their poisonous nature with bright colors... just like the monarch!

Monarch butterflies in the Eastern U.S. overwinter in Florida, along the coast of Texas, and in Mexico, and return to the north in spring. Monarch butterflies follow the same migration patterns every year. (Wikipedia)

Very nicely done, Danilo, but maybe a little too centered. I think I would cut a bit on the left to focus our attention a little more on the butterfly. Nice sharpness & great colours. Well done!

Sorry, my bag is empty!

Hi Danilo - This photo is striking because of the strong colours, their combination and the sharpness. I like that some flowers remain in the foreground on the same level with the butterfly, while others blurrily 'fade' into the BG. Well caught. Interesting note, too. Thank you! - Have a good week! Cordelia :)

Hi Danilo
Beautiful picture with very natural colors. It is sharp except maybe the tip of the front wing near the top. The flowers maybe are drawing too much attention but the scene is representative of the natural habitat of this butterfly.

You are right, this is a monarch butterfly (D. plexippus). The Viceroy is very much alike indeed but there are some differences to tell them apart.

Danilo...what beauty...colurs, texture & detail. Incredible decisive moment. Very good !
Just a minor point I would try & darken the background left hand yellow flowers to make the main motif stand out even more...or crop a bit the left...but that is just being picky...cause I really like it

Beautiful colours and light. Lovely details, pov and background. This is lovely - it looks like a fantasy garden

What a beautiful shot of this butterfly. The flowers surrounding him are competing for the glory too with their lovely colours. However the DoF really concentrates the focus on the butterfly and makes him stand out from the background. Very well done.
Cheers Joan
