[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A simple hourglass, cascading down the rocks into a deep gorge along the Minnesota / Canada border.

Before this river was here, the Laurentian mountain range stood high over the region. There were glaciers, floods, fires and volcanoes, and this is the result of eons of dramatic change.

The earth is always changing, though very slowly, and this beautiful waterfall reminded me that the word "forever" would be nearly meaningless if it were not for faith.

Nothing lasts forever, it is physically impossible. All matter will break down at the atomic level with enough time; much like steel will rust and crumble, and much like water will carry away insignificant amounts of rock for thousands of years until the rock itself is merely delta sand in some far away place.

Even the sun, whose light provides us with warmth and starts the natural processes which allow things to grow here on Earth, is ever so slowly burning itself out.

But in the meantime, if the sun's dying energy is captured at the right time of day by a patient photographer, the camera can record a scene beautiful enough to defy explanation.

And in the meantime, this waterfall remains a hidden treasure, a simple reminder that even man's greatest accomplishments are no match for nature and time.

Hi Brain,
Stunning photo. The shutter speed worked perfectly here showing the force of the water cascading down the black rocks. The light are colors are beautiful and bring out some of the beautiful details in the BG.
TFS,
Niek

Excellent shot, Brian. Good work on the waterfall exposure. It worked well here.

i like the silky water look from the slow shutter here brian :)
good composition and colors

another beautiful nature shot...nice choice of the slower shutter speed to capture the cascade perfectly...i always love that effect...i also like the diagonal composition and how there are branches that have creeped into the bottom left of the frame...maybe a little brighter color tho...peace***
