Ebony Hillbillies in Penn Station.

(The guy against the wall loves them. I think he's homeless. He always watches them and dances while they play.)

You can read more about them HERE.

Another at TrekEarth.

hi Hugh,

I like the man in blur in contrast to the others. Again a great documentary shot. Your metro is very big :) Good for us :)

Better attention paid here to compostion/ placement of your subjects, so it gets my vote from the start.
You've done well in the low-light conditions, good sharpness and plenty of detail although the faces are darkly in shadow.

Now. About telling a story, as you have done here. I may be wrong but in my view (shaped by a career in advertising, so possibly FUBAR) it's important to have just one singleminded idea or story to tell. With that decided, you don't have to try and "fit" several elements into a shot as you have done here.
In other words, if the photograph is about the Ebony Hillbillies, try for a POV in which the duo effectively fill the frame. If you want to include the dancing homeless guy, make him an out-of-focus element in the background.
Alternatively, if the photograph is Dancing Homeless Guy, focus on him and use your D50's beautifully shallow depth of field to include the EH's as an out-of-focus contextual element.
Now there are just suggestions, in fact they're simply the way I would try (not necessarily manage) to do it.
I hope this is of some interest to you, an entertaining read over a cup of coffee if nothing else!
Thanks as always for providing this excellent material and for making me think about photography!!

Nice, but I prefer the one on TrekEarth. Seems to me much better.
