[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Exploring the flora of southern Maryland, I happened upon lots of these flowers. I thought they might be bluebells until I saw Necip's post. The stem and leaves are not similar, so can anyone help me out with the identification?

PP Work--a slight crop to obtain the dimensions of the golden rectangle, added a frame, resized and sharpened.

Hi Karen,
Beautiful woodland capture. The colors are excellent against the dark background and the bright green leaves. Yes, they are bluebells--Virginia Bluebells to be exact. There are many different varieties. Check out these websites. http://www.mounet.com/~jdye/bluebell.html AND http://www.illinoiswildflowers.info/woodland/plants/bluebells.htm
Good job. :)

Virginia Bluebells!

Nice colors! TFS,

Don't you just love the flowers in the Mid-Atlantic? Here in northern Virginia there are also tons of gorgeous flowers to take pictures of, I don't even know where to start. Nice colors, good detail, and a good shallow DOF to make those bluebells pop out. I would only recommend using a faster shutter speed and then brightening the shot a bit in Photoshop since having a slower shutter speed like you used in direct sunlight can cause the photo to lose tonalities and details. The blue petals consequently look slightly washed out or flat in tonality. But certainly still look wonderful. Also be careful to not let the edge of that middle leaf near the top get all the focus while the flowers, in comparison, do not look so sharp or in-focus (I would know I make that mistake very often :P). Very good balance and composition with the three bunches of flowers at different planes, and not too centered. TFS!

...I return... :)

Nice shooting Karen. Unfortunately I don't have a photo to share what our bluebells look like...but these are very nice. The 3 little clusters are placed well in the frame and the natural bg looks very nice. Excellant focus and true to life colors. Very nice Karen!

Hi Karen,
Lovely my dear! Fine contrast of blue and green. Try next time to use a smaller aperture (f/8.0 or higher) it will create a better DOF. Anyway a nice posting. TFS.
