[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is one of the portraits I put in my portfolio for Photography II this afternoon.

Originally in color, I added a B/W layer (red filter) and masked out his tattoo, the guinness logo, and his guitar pick. Besides that, no other PP.

I am liking selective color, and I think I am going to continue experimenting with it. The effects are nice, my proff liked them.

What have ya got?

I like the selective color too! This has turned out wonderfully, it could be the picture for an album cover. Excellent tones and contrasts, and that guitar's decoration with the faded black bordering turned out beautifully. Great expression from the musician, he seems to be saying "pfsshhh, I do this all the time!" Wonderful clarity and good lighting used that brings out all the forms and contours. The flat background works to make him pop out, especially since he is wearing a flannel shirt (a busy background would have been too much with his clothes already patterned). Nice tight vertical cropping that creates balance between his head and the guitar and arm. I might recommend making the face and his hand a little darker or more contrasty by either burning or selecting the face and adjusting levels. Red channel tends to make skin look flat and too bright. Also leave just a sliver more of negative space at the right so that his ear and head are not almost touching the right edge of the photo. Otherwise an excellent and almost cheeky shot. It's full of mood and character. TFS!

Hi Michael, nice comp, lovely b&w tones, and I like the subtlety of the coloured plectrum too.

Great work Mike. I especially like the added color of the pick. Keep it up.

Really nice composition! You do very well! Specially the expression of Justin and let the colors on his tattoo! Nice one! I like the POV and the how you frame the picture! The only thing (maybe me) look like if the face was fuzzy :-(
I thing you do a great job on this one!
Congradulation!

Hello Michael,
The way you show us Justin and his tattoo, gives us the feeling that, looking to this photo, we get to know something about his personality and his inner life. There is his smile, of course, but focus is (literally and figuratively) on his arm and hand. Your partial desaturation (very sutble: you also let the small plectrum in colour) still enhances this mood. Good crop too. Really well done!
TFS & kind regards,
Erik
