Nice B&W picture, and good handeling off the light, shadows are interesting and kind of a sport to find and cache.
I think you did it well.

Anders
Hi Laura! Well, I love the smooth tonalities and the black and white in this, and the subject is great for the shot since it creates an obscure "lurking" shadow. Good choice with placing the vase off-center and balancing with its shadow, making the shadow also the focus. Now, I maybe would have chosen an even more narrow vertical framing for this shot since the very long, upward shape of the vase leads the eye upward so much that it needs more room at the top to rest than at the sides. You don't need that negative space at the bottom so much. And no, the wall does not look overexposed at all, it looks just fine, maybe your monitor is set too bright? The sense of detail and textures are great. Be careful, actually, with not letting this get too dark, because the bottle is starting to get too black to the point where it is losing tonality on the main of it. I like the point of view chosen in this because it makes the vase and its shadow seem tall and almost looming, and I love the way the corners and edges are a little darker to make the lighting brighter in the middle for contrast. I am wondering if maybe some interesting shadows and lighting could be created with some venetian blinds to make lines of shadows upon the vase and wall...hope this helps. I think you did an excellent job, especially for an experiment. Keep shooting, and thanks for sharing!

hello Laura
beautiful picture with shadows and lights very well used with a simple subjet to get a nice shot
regards
jjo .
Laura keep experimenting, it is interesting how a photographer gets to see what others might not notice. I like that you were looking for different angles, seeing the shadows, lights.
Well done,
Iris
