Friends, again from archive. The Garden of the Gods....the marvels of the red rock structures.

From Wikepadia: Garden of the Gods is a public park located in Colorado Springs. It contains red sandstone hogback formations, similar to the Red Rocks south of Denver. The name Colorado is said to come from the color of this sandstone.

The hogbacks, so named because they resemble the backs and spines of a pig, are ridges of sandstone whose layers are tilted. Instead of lying horizontally, some layers are even vertically oriented. Each hogback can range up to several hundred feet long, and the tallest (called The Kissing Camels) rises to a height of 320 feet tall. Entrance to the park is free according to the wish of Charles Elliott Perkins, whose children donated the land to the city of Colorado Springs in 1909.

Geologists claim that the story of the Garden of the Gods began nearly 300 million years ago, when sediment from the Ancestral Rockies was carried eastward and spread out into great alluvial fans. This sediment was then reddened by ferric iron and long covered by a shallow inland sea.

Some sixty million years ago - when the modern Rocky Mountains began their upward thrust - the horizontal sedimentary rocks were elevated and tilted skyward. The forces of wind and rain then gradually stripped away the softer layers, sculptering each rock into the form we see today: Gateway Rocks, Tower of Babel, Balanced Rock, Cathedral Spires, Three Graces, Sleeping Indian, Siamese Twins, Scotsman, Pig's Eye.

This place is really cool for photographers.

I'm sure will be a good knowledge...Enjoy.

Hi Vandana,
Boy what a great picture did you took with "my" camera :) Gosh what colours, so this is what I can expect :) Perfect composittion, the nice lead-in of the road from the right lower edge is perfect. The image might be a bit darker (IMHO) but overall superb my dear Vandana. Looking forward to see pictures taken with YOUR new friend!
Hans

Hi Vandana,
fantastic landscape and its magnic colors make dream. Great American spaces immediately are imagined.
300 million years ago, how much our lives are short and they will be still there well after our presence on this good old Earth.
Heartily, Corinne.

It looks like a spectacular area. I can easily imagine myself driving down this windy bit of road with my eyes perhaps not on the road as much as it should.
Your photo captures the area well. Nice placement of various objects in the frame. Also the use of the road leads my eye into the image well. However, the down side is the brightness of the red. The high brightess seems to obscure the features in the rocks. I don't know if you increased saturation, but if not perhaps reducing it may have helped.

Hi Vandana,
Nice angle for the shot. This is awesome. Nothing to change here. TFS. Best of regards,
Josée

Hello Vandana
For some time I looked to this very nice photo..searching for that hard to carch detail I am not sure of....
The photo lookes tilted to the left.. but again after a long look it can be caused by driving ' down hill' Than my second puzzle.. the light is a little to strong on the rocks...Where is it leaving me in my evaluation? A wonderfull country shot and a very good 'lead-in' on the right below corner.. lilttle nit point on the strong light , on the 0-10 scale .. an 8. It was kind of Hans Greenbaron to alow you make this shot *__* TFS

Hi Vandana,
I have an Aunt and cousin who live in Colorado Springs and I am going to visit this summer. This is a wonderfully colorful preview of what I will see there, now you have me all excited about the visit. An excellent panavision has been captured in this frame. The variety of colors from nature are fantastic with cool blue sky, warm rocks and tender forrest. Well done did. Colorado is one of the places in my visit list when I shall go to USA (probably by the end of 2007).
