Okay, I'll admit, I've visited Galveston two times and I hated it. I never liked the brown water and the dark grainy sand and I personally found the landscape unappealling. However this is just a gorgeous shot of Galveston beach. The use of the natural lighting, coming bright from behind the clouds but also diffused into subtle pinks and violets upon the water and subjects in the foreground really make this so appealling and eye-catching. Excellent natural colors, great tonalities, I love the horizontal framing and composition that allows a nice balance between the sand and water in the lower third of the shot and the lovely dramatic blanket of clouds in the upper two thirds. Very strong simple composition that is only dotted with those little birds that run along the sand and water (I love those little guys ;) ). Nice subtle reflection of the sky captured on the shallow pool of water in the sand too. Perhaps I would have made the darkest tones just slightly darker for more contrast and punch, but a beautiful shot with lots of mood and atmosphere. I can really feel the time of day here, TFS!
