9-Banded Armadillo

The "Honorary" mascot of "The Lone Star
State
"

While walking a back trail in a Nature Park in Friendswood, Texas I came across three juvinille armadillos. Their eyesight is very bad so as long as I was quiet and moved very slowly, they remained unaware of my presence. The brush was heavy and it was almost impossible to get a clear shot. I finally became impatient and tried to get in front of one to get a nice head shot. Suddenly becoming aware of my presence, they scurried off into their burrow which was only a few yards away. I went back a few weeks later but the burrow was deserted. I think high water from heavy rains had forced them to seek higher ground and once the water receded, they returned to their previous den.

The grass obscuries it.

Have you heard the Robert Earl Keen Song
"The Armadillo"
I think I located the bridge where the narrator met his fate.

Jim,
Speaking of obscurities Why does Texan always complain to people in his critiques about the very things that he is guilty of.
I like this photo, this is the way I would expect to see one in the wild. I like the vibrant color and the good lighting.
