This was also taken just off Route 66, I pulled over and had to act very quickly to get this shot.
I was amazed by the shear size and length of these beasts, we have nothing quite that large here in the UK, but the these freight trains have a lot longer journeys to cover than here in the UK.

PP resized and resharpened for TL.

What a great shot - I only wish the POV had given us more of the train's length, with the tracks visible to vanishing point! Such a great capture of the big openness of the US' West. Good sharpness, light, and subject well spotted!

It's kinda difficult...part of me wants to see more of the train but at the same time I like the track ahead of it.

I think you need to go back with a wider lens :-)

Nice angle for the shot with the train, track, fence and phone lines(?) breaking up the scene at different points. I am enjoying the shots from your U.S. trip, I have to say.

nice composition and colors.

Hi Dean,
Thanks for your kind words on Easter Island.
It's hard for a New Zealander to appreciate the sheer size of the rail network in the States. Our gauge is 3'6" in the old money.
I'm not sure from your pic if the tracks are laid on gravel or concrete, either way the mind boggles at the amount they must use.
I think your image shows us the magnitude of thier rail system.
Thanks for posting this one, my Dad was a railwayman.
Peter.

Beautiful beast Dean and well captured.
I love trains and this one is fantastic. Great photo with excellent composition and nice colours.
