Dollar a Game
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
| This is an everyday scene in Market Street between Powell and Fifth Street, unless it is raining. Homeless people, chess lovers who want to practice their chess games, old expert players, and those who want to challenge the old experts come here to play chess. They wager a dollar per game. Sometimes they go two dollars per game. Some bring their chess clocks for speed chess. There are always a lot of people watching, but they are all quiet, respecting the players. These chess tables are sometimes line up the whole block from Fifth to Sixth Street. The only thing I do not like is sometimes there are teenagers who hang around and they have their "boom boxes" or stereo radios blaring out loud music. The people who hang around here are very good chess players. Unfortunately every time I pass by here, I have not time to play or watch a whole game. |

It would fit very well TrekEarth. Interesting situations, I remind something like that in Cracow, near Wawel Royal Castle, along Vistula River.

very good daily-life photo, Andre! i myself don't know much about chess (last tiime played it when i was a child), but i like watching people playing chess - their ability to concentrate, to think moves ahead.. and you've catched that moment, their "thinking" very well here!

Very well composed picture, I like that you have included a very detailed note, it adds to the photo. The one thing I did not like about this is that you have heavy shadow, and i would suggest that you try it with flash next time around. I envy you because you live in a very spectacular and interesting city where there is lots of things to do and see. TFS and good luck in the future.
Oh what a wonderful picture you got here. A moment of peace in the middle of the city. Great capture !
