The Thousand Mile Stare
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Sometimes animals in captivity seem to show despair and hopelessness. That is what I saw today when photographing
this Lowland Gorilla at Riverbanks Zoo. He just had that thousand mile stare. Maybe I'm wrong. What do you think?
I decided to repost this one and try to improve on some of the issues fellow members commented on. The levels were adjusted. Thanks to all. |

Brilliant shot, amazing sharpness, well done and presented. Compliments and TFS.
Jens.
I look at his eyes and feel like I am looking at a person's eyes. It is creepy yet beautiful and interesting. I like the closeup and the good details you attained in this image. I think the portrait is very well composed and you managed to show us a fine face. I am assuming you took this picture through glass as I can see some sections that look different from others. In any case it is a nice picture. Thanks Rob.

It's a repost! I believe it's very hard to control or manipulate a light condition like that! I can't say if of a glass or just the effect of sun...
But anyway the expression is impressive! I agree with you!
I will try if i can do better... No promises... But i will show it in a workshop if it give me satisfaction :)
I circular polarized would probably help a lot that situation !
Hi Rob Poole,
This is a repost but the errors are still there only i think sharpness is improved. Werewolf has given a workshop and i appreciate it but thats not my Fav. Its darkened too much. This picture just needs a little touching to control the lighting affects but will take a lot of time and i want you to do it by your self using my tips so you learn it practically.
Just use burn tool and its setting Range= Midtones and Exposure=50% but didnt posted bcz was not perfect but i bet it will clear the matter. Remember give the touch of the tool only once on a particular place. When you do it let me know.
I hope my critique becomes useful for you.
With best regards,

Monkeys/Apes carry 98.4% of the same DNA that we humans carry. They are so fun to watch b/c they are so much like us. We can find pleasure in watching mirror images of ourselves...without fear of scolding for staring.
Truly great picture. TSF!
