Dear Reid Stone,
I like ladybirds since my childhood, now and to the the future.
lovely shape and pretty color attracts my favorite. the number of their stars (=spots) on the round back varies in lots, and in Japan people like 7 stars ladybird as a lucky symbol.
anyway this your close up shot well captured its shining round back, it is very cute.
thank you,
Akihisa

Hi Reid,
A wonderful way all shiny, bright and detailed - to show this well known little bug.
We call her a "Lieve Heers Beestje" and in french there is also a name for it that has the same meaning "La Bête à Bon Dieu" (see picture Tamtidelam) how to translate in english - the little animal from Our Good Lord?
Always good to show a good luck creature!
Thanks
Els

Hello Reid,
the species you show is
- Harmonia axyridis
a species of Coccinellidae not native to North America but originating from East Asia. Unfortunately, this species is not only the enemy of pests but also of the native Coccinella species. In the last years it has also spread over Europe and tries to substitute our Coccinella septempunctata.
Best wishes, Peter
