Lavender Branches Sans Moon
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Earlier this month, I was about to leave for work one morning (pre-sunrise), and saw the moon peeking from between the branches of some trees that shade my driveway. I couldn't resist, of course, so I got my camera out of my backpack and snapped several shots, a couple with flash and the rest without.
The shots with flash were a mess. The nearby branches stood out in sharp relief, and the ones farther away had too soft a look. The moon did show up fairly well, but the rest of the image was excessively dark, almost completely black but not crisp, sort of muddy. I'll post the original in a workshop if anyone wants to look at it.
I decided to invert one of the flash shots and play with the levels.
I inverted the image in Photoshop, then lightened it with the Image/Adjustments/Levels command. A nice lavender shade appeared in the branches, and the black sky turned white. At this point, the moon looked strangely out of place, so I erased it, then sharpened the image before resizing. |

Perfect POV, excellent shot, good enough for any cover of a book (Romance) - well done!
such a lovely effect Michael :) i love playing with inverted images and this is a really nice and unexpected result here.. looks like the image was born to be seen this way with the sharpness and lovely hues of the lavender.. very creative work! well done ^_^ - Ayda
