“Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in where nature may heal and cheer and give strength to the body and soul.” ~John Muir

I can never imagine what Andrew goes through each day .. it is so wonderful to see him when he finds some joy.

Whenever we hike up a mountainside Andrew loves to protest by taking frequent breaks .. not so much because he is exhausted .. mostly just passive resistance .. just to say "are you kidding? are we really going up?"

Always passing hikers inquire as to what is going on ... Andrew is not much for moving off the trail or finding a comfortable rock to sit on .. I am always explaining and assuring them that we are alright .. or maybe even better than that.

Hallo John!
Andrew looks very much like Buddha - as we know him from the millions of statues. Seeing this, I can believe in reincarnation...
Congratulations!
Anton

hello John,
I always have a soft spot for those that refuse to comply. They have their own agenda, their own ideas, views and ways of seeing the world and dance to their own tune.So Andrew is smiling for his own reasons. And passing walkers impeded by Andrew's resting will just have to walk around.
regards
Bev

Yes, John, a wonderful capture of Andrew's freedom to "be" and his joy in reveling in it.
Great post and note,
Karen

Hi John,
Hohn Muir is a wise and a fine psychologist! Thanks to point out him to us!
Andrew seems so happy! His personal universe must be in harmony with the nature which surrounds him, here. You knew to show it to us with subtlety and efficiency. Bravo! Annie

Yes...his smile says that he is alright enjoying the view:)Nice portrait
Hugs for you all

Hi John,
Yes that grin really says he's good!! I have a friernd whose son has a verbal form of autism and he is also very loving. When he was about 12, a teacher asked him to participate in her wedding. He agreed but then seemed very upset; when his Mom explored the problem he said, "But Mom, I don't know if I'm ready to get married."
I would tend to think that due to an inability to respond as exected, many children weith autism don't get enough touching to value it. Temple Grandin said that touch was often of an irritating level; yet she made herself a squeeze box so she could control the level of touch.

Hi John,

Seems like he is really relaxed and watching you working hard.... well captured. TFS
