Hi Karen and welcome to TL. The colour and thh detail are excellent. Perhaps cropping out the two partial flowers (botton and left) would have focused attention on the main flower. Well done for a first attempt and TFS,
David
Many thanks for your comment on North Esk Reflections

Hi Karen - I agree with Davd about the crop, it could be tighter.
But a fairly minor point, this is a pretty good shot! The colours are realistic, there is some nice sharp detail and the POV works very well..this is taken from a nice angle. You should be pleased with this one.

Hie Karen,
What a great effort you've done there. Good POV to position it on the side and colors and sharpness are good.

Dear Karen,
an elegant shot of the delicate water lily flower. soft light and soft focus are effective for expressing its tender beautifulness.
I think the most important point of flower-photo is natural shooting based on natural feeling for flowers, and it may realize to express the air of flowers. perhaps you already know it.
thank you,
Akihisa
just clone out the edge distractions..lower left..nudge nudge..:)
perfect dark green/mauve contrast with dark water doing the correct support background effect
central composition is ok if you are a botanist but i prefer 1/3 type even if you have to ...erm..improvise..
you know
cheers
geof
ps the other workshop is exact..but doesnt take into consideration the effect of the lower right petal..this moves the apparent centre of the object downwards and to the right
rule of thirds..rule..dont be ruled..
break them!

this is beautiful shot, Karen.. great shot with lovely compo and detail.

Hi Karen
One of the things to remember when doing any pictures is the "rule of thirds," which you will find very nicely illustrated in this wikipedia article here.
Although it is called a rule, if you read the whole article, take a look at my workshop and take a look at the external links in the article, you will also see that it is not a true "rule" but a guideline. It works in 80% of cases. But try it with some of your own images and see how you feel about the result.
Beyond that, the colours are superb and the details fabulous!
This is a truly fabulous start and I expect to see lots more flower pictures from you in the future
TFS

Hi Karen,
Very nice flower and good colour balance. Really interesting photo, tfs. From the WS versions I prefer Geof's (mrcrow) one - this is the way how I should have done it. But get my congrats for the original version, too. Best regards, László
