[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Ah, winter . . . . it creeps up on us and suddenly the snowy mantle is here. This photo is from a winter past, but we've already had a few snowstorms in the eastern Sierra this season. This is Mono Lake from the eastern Tufa reserve on a deep and dark December day. The Tufa is limestone which was once under the Lake water level. Underground springs made the tufa before Los Angeles started to steal the water in the early 20th Century. The Lake level has dropped 50 feet since then . . . but it's now starting to ride again due to lawsuits. Long Live Mono Lake!

Spectacular lake view - ok, it looks cold, and not what the world expects of California! - but beautifully metered and composed. The rock formation is eyecatching especially.
