Shining in the Dusk
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Another Christmas light installment, in an upscale part of town, as I continue to work on trying to master what can be a tricky lighting situation.
I've read that dusk is a great time for these shots because you can show off the lights -- not to mention handy props such as a snowman! :) -- without having a background that's mostly black, lacking in perspective, or both.
So I thought I'd try it. This shot was taken about 4:30 this afternoon, about 15 minutes after sunset here in the U.S. Midwest. I used spot metering on the lights, a relatively long exposure, no flash, white balance set to shade. I think I had the landscape setting on for this particular frame, too, pulling for a little more depth of field.

Hi Jim,
Excellent "dusk" photo with many details and very good capture of Christmas lighting! You did well with the exposure and DOF. Bravo! Annie
Nice one Jim
Good camera setings and you used the good old classic way:
The Tripod use!
Often more work.. to set up and all, but it pays off as we
can see here.
Wonderfull mood in your Xmas shot. Compliments from Holland
