Niagara Falls, New York:

Linda Unger (shelbeesmom), Shelby Morris (shelbee) and I had already done lots of shooting under heavy skies and in a mixture of snow and rain that started early in the morning and continued most of the day. But that did not dampen our spirits. We laughed so much all day long yesterday, to the complete bewilderment of our spouses and children who were getting cold and wet. (For Linda's children, Shelby and Andy, it was a first experience with snow, so there will be lots of pictures yet to come :D -- snowball fights, and snow men, and the face of a girl who didn't know how COLD your feet can get!)

Then, just as we were headed for our cars to cross the border into Canada to do the night shooting, I looked back and yelled: "The light! Look at the light!"

Linda, Shelby and I ran back down to the falls and started shooting all over again to capture the wonderful light of the sun that had finally broken through the clouds. It was heaven!

When we returned to our neglected spouses, they just laughed. "We saw you two start running in the wrong direction, so we just went back into the coffee shop. At least WE are warm! :D"

Tech: shot in RAW, increased colour saturation in RAW, converted, resized without cropping and framed

Then I accidentally posted the unframed version -- please find the final version the workshop!!

Thanks for looking and have a wonderful day

P.S. Linda and I have agreed: we will not post pictures of each other until she is online again next week and has had a chance to see what I took and vice versa! :D

Hello Silke,
This is a very attractive creation!
So this is December at the Niagara, amazing light indeed...
I like the composition with the curving road, and the factory like buildings in the back contrast well with the natural beauty...
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi dear friend,
it's a real pleasure to see your shot near mine :)
This it's a wonderful posting for this Theme.
I've red the story. Great one! I know that feeling, when after many shots you turn back your head and see something amazing and... it all starts again... :))) It's an amazing feeling. The light it's truly special and the mood it's more than pleasant.
Congrats my friend!
Best wishes,
Ioana

Hi Silke,
I can imagine you selected this as your favorite shot! Great management of light in this scene, dramatic clouds. The lonely figure makes it even more dramatic!
Excellent contribution to the theme!

Hi Silke,

A quick message from my sisters computer.
That must have been wonderful - this picture sure is!
I know how to neglect a spouse when enjoying time with your camera. Luckily on our TL meet Ad had other spouses to keep him company. When you make pictures you really forget about the cold. How great it must be to see snow for the first time in your life!
Wonderful capture - amazing sky and story.

Hi Silke
That has an odd look of welcome about it.
Moody colours, the lone walker, maybe going home.
All the best

The amazing colors in the sky and the misty spray in the background are just wonderfull Silke but for me the silhouettes of the skyline make the shot. Good contribution to teh theme.

That light was well worth running back for! It also brings back memories of when I lived in Buffalo for a couple of years...and the SNOW:) Anyway, the cloud formations and the light in this image are truly exquisite, and I love the muted silhouetted shapes of the building(s). Good catch and very well done:)

yes. i like it too Silke, the srikign light from the clouds is different, beautifully captured.TFS.

I don't 'know' Shelby or Linda, but I'm sure you all had a great time together. I love going out on photoshoots with Dawn and Pam and Sweety too. We have so much fun and learn a lot too.
Super colours here Silke - that sky is so pretty - just as well you stopped and went back...
Cheers
Janice

PS Us Kiwi TL's promise NOT to post a pic of each other unless we all agree on it. We have so many 'bad' pics of each other we will 'pay them back' double-fold!!

Hi Silke,
And oh what a beautiful light it was! Love the golden color of the sky and the clouds! Glad you noticed it and turned around to go back..:o) I am familar with the snow that day as I was out in the AM doing errands , Wish I had remembered you were going to be there, I shoulda caught up with you all! Maybe another time!
Thanks for sharing and its a beauty for sure!

Impressive that orange and moody Sky! The only time i remember seeing a sky who impress me that much was a summer sunset... I simply stop and was n total admiration... as i shoot... And shoot again... But as the 1.4 mega mix was limited...

Probably you had the same feeling with that sky who impress a mood to those buildings.
I find it excellent!

Hola Silke,
precioso pov,
colores y ambiente,
cálidos momentos...
Muchos saludos amiga.

hi silke, great shot, nice colors an the sky, good atmosphere to this also with good composition and exposure, well done, happy newyear, thanks scott

Hi Silke - I am glad you two ran back to get this beautiful light! The colours of the clouds and the sky remind me of William Turner's palette. Wonderful contrast to the greyish colours on the ground. The fabulous, partial haze in the LH middle ground and the tree silhouettes add still more atmosphere to this wintery urban sunset. Very well done and thank you for sharing, also the story behind this shot! You made me smile. A happy and prosperous 2008 to you!! - Cordelia :))

Hello Silke

Firstly I am sorry for the delay in getting to your image.. but hyey it was worth the wait... what an amazing shot.Fantastic POV with incredible tones and colours. Lovely details and well worthy of a favourite shot. Lovely work my friend

TFS regards Helen

Hello Silke,
What a difference in nature. John, Luc and myself were there I guess on exact date last year, and we'd horrible weather.

Hi Silke. This is a wonderful photo of the winter weather in that part of the world. The cropping and the inclusion of a solo walker makes it excellent. Suitable for a magazine or similar. TFS. Murray.

Hi Silke!
I'm so glad the sun came through for us! I love the sihouettes of the city in front of the golden sky.
well done,
Shelby

Wow, I clearly see why you like it, it is gorgeous, what a superb sunset! The sky is fantastic!
Well composed with the buildings, the curve and the walking man.
Great work! Yan :)

I think Linda posted an image from close to this same spot. Interesting to see the different composition the the two of you chose. Really like your results with the sky element. I just critiqued her picture of you at Friday's an assumed there would be one of her over her.
