ebony and ivory...living together in perfect harmony :-)

my beautiful Sir Bodmin 'Ebonyzer' in his favourite sleeping place! well.. when he doesn't have my head to sleep on anyway.. ihih

i'm constantly trying to find ways to photograph my shadowy beauty where you can actually see his handsome features! ihih but i liked the architechtural quality of this shot with the edge of the fireplace and the canopy providing contrasting angles.. and of course, any excuse to post a kitty pic!! ^_^

***

shot freehand in the morning with only the sunlight filtered through the curtains as a light source, original composition with no cropping, then simply USM, a little desaturation of the yellows and a bit of cloning out of the cat hairs on the bed! ... all us cat lovers know... it's a loosing battle :-)

oh dear.. it's 4am and i'm still awake!! grrrrrr damn even the strongest sleeping pills from the doctor can't knock me out.. well.. hopefully Bodmin will come to bed and cuddle up to me and let me rest my weary head on his warm purring body... this always helps :-)

take care all

Critiques [Translate]

ayda, there are several things i like about this one - let me see if i can name all of them...
first the (lack of) lighting has created such a soft mood in this photo...strange because my cats always want to be wherever there is the most sunlight shining in.
also, the colors - there is no color in the really, but the black on white is a very nice contrast and i especially love that you can't see his eyes (they are probably green and would take away from the whole "no color" thing i was enjoying).
and all the lines - the lines in the brick, the lines of the fireplace, the curtain falling down to the bedpost, the pillows, and of course, the cat...a lot of lines, yet, still a simple shot.
busy, but simple...i think i like that because sometimes i think that is what my thoughts are like...busy, but simple...

I like that cat is just a black shape in such a soft mood.

Simplicity works!
Your use of two main colours, soft lights of an early morning, some lines framing the main subject... ready, steady go! for an atmospherical shot. Inviting in some way as getting the message of being quiet, too, don't disturb me in my little realm. Lovely work Ayda, just lovely...

Cats are mankind best friends... not dogs, hehe... and an excellent subject for photo, since they are sleeping... hehe.
you have an amazing portfolio... but when I see a cat... my "mouse" runs to them....hehe.
Nice lighting.
( My Margaux is meowing to your Bodmin...)
Cheers!

I like all the white in your room, saw it already in another picture, nice designed.
The cat however (but I really like cats...), I would like to "see" him....
It's only black, where are his eyes, his feet, I can see his ears, but.... the contrast with the white is nice done.
Next shot: "the details of Bodmin"...

Hi Ayda,

If only I could be as relaxed as cats can be.
Great composition with the diff shades of white and gray and the very black cat in the middle.
Regards,
Paul

Hi Ayda, what a nice picture of your prince in your bedroom. We have two female cats and love them to bits, although the rule the household.

Hope you get to sleep better soon !

Ayda dear, your corner of the world looks like such peacefull place. Had i been a cat, i woudl love to lie thre for my sleep too. All the white colour fills the picture with such fresh feeling. And the brick wall against the lihgt fabric and the wood of the bed...and a black cat sleeping...and now i know, all is right in this world :-) I hope you are havng a lovley day, that you were able to get some sleep.

Hugs

Zandra

You must ask Boromir the secrets of sleep ;-)
He looks beautiful, so relaxed, enjoying that blissful sleep that only cats know about...
You've managed to create a wonderful composition in that little corner, which wasn't easy will all those different white elements and just that single furry blackness... A real challenge!! Well done Ayda!!

hahahha... that's true.. the battle against cat hairs everywhere is a loosing battle :))
Ayda, I love the contrast of this shot but also because is a very soft and well balanced one, with nice tones and shapes all around.
And definitly Sir Bodmin is the king of the house!!
Well done.
Marisa

Ayda,
I love this pic of your precious boy. The contrast is awesome and I love the angularity of the fireplace. I must post another kitty picture soon!

Cheers!
Alli

what a beautiful cat! I like the color contrast a lot!

Hi Ayda,
someone who's writing so lovely cat-critiques must also have a cat in the archiv - here it is!
So wonderful contrast, such a wonderful pose, so much harmony in this shot, thank you very much, I like it very much, bye
