Like the others of TrekMeet Niagara (here and here), this was taken of the American Falls just after the sun finally showed itself. The falls appear green in colour because of the huge volume of water rushing over the brink.

Some interesting facts about the Niagara Falls:
Originally, 35,000,000 gallons of fresh water PER MINUTE roared over the edge. Half of this is now diverted (at night & during the off season) for hydro-electric power generation by the governments of both countries.

The "young" American Niagara Falls (about 600 years old) seen here is "only" 70 feet (23 metres) high and 1,000 feet (330 metres) wide. In contrast, the Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side are 12,000 years old, 52 metres high and 675 metres wide.

Tech: captured in RAW, adjusted contrast and levels in RAW, converted to jpg, cloned out some of the grasses in the foreground, resized without cropping, framed and signed

Take a peek at the workshop to see what the happy shooters look like after a very long day of shooting :D

Thanks for looking and have a powerful day!

Hello silke,
The power of the water is demonstrated pretty well here. So is the the use of natural lighting in this composition. Excellent clarity and I like it.
Regards,
Jusni

Hi Lotl,
Wow stunning capture of the falls. I like the soft green colours of the water particular here. Regarding the composition, the half visible grass is a bit distractive in my opinion, One out of two, or I would have showed the complete grass or I would have removed it, well that's only my opinion :-) Overall a stunning posting my dear!
Hans

Hi Silke

Excellentcolours ,details of the waterfall Silke.Stunning picture.
Well done.

Belle angle pour la prise. C'est super c'est eau avec une teinte de vert. Belle image en mouvement Bravo Réal.

Many years ago, I came to visit this place armed with Kodak chrome slides, and those days, we were so impressed with the shots, but we could only afford 1 or 2 shots -expensive.

So now, you have digital photography and I wonder how many shots will a photographer take for such a lovely viewpoint like this one. When you see such an exciting scene like this, the shutter releases by itself many more times!

Great landscape! Only need to be aware of mists fogging the lens if you stand too near! TFS, bill

Another nice shot from the falls, Silke. You have caught the power of the water very well indeed, something many shots of the falls seem to avoid, trying instead to go for grace...nothing wrong with either approach, but I tend to prefer the "power" feel in shots like this. Nice one!

(unlike Hans, I think the grass adds a little something, breaks up the pic nicely)

Marvelous shot Silke! I love how the green of the water is so visible in the falls. Wouldn't it be cool to be able to travel back 12,000 years with our cameras and take a shot?? This is so nice!!
B-)
Linda

Hi Silke,
You certainly know how to find a good POV, this is great, well done.

Hello Silke

Beautiful fall of Niágara Falls.
in fact the gilding in his fall is wonderful, and I see the power of the water.
In the season of the rain for here, our Waterfalls of Iguassú, also bend his volume of water giving a beautiful effect.
Beautiful shot, beautiful angle and beautiful composition!
Greetings!

Hello Silke,

Happy Sappers describes you both perfectly, as does Raw Power for you main shot! The cropping is perfect too!

The water reminds me of of some thick examples of Whitefriars glass, if you have ever seen it! The thick bubbled texture is exactly like the streams of water surging over the falls! I love it!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

That water on the left seems so massive,
great job in capturing it's power.
Fantastic view, Great job.

Hello Silke.
Still a nice place for a fresh morning shower, right?
Excellent pov and very spesical colors in it,
Wonder if you also took photo's with a slower speed ?
That will gives it a even a more flowing look.
Have a lovely day, dear Silke.
Jan

Hello Silke,

the shot is just so vivid as if the thunderous splash deafens the ears and feel the coolness of the mist. i like the detail in the swiftness of the fall.

great shot.

:)
Lensa

Hi Silke! Lovely details and colors of the falls. I miss the loud sound and the mist of Niagara! You framed the roaring might with the power plant in the background very well. Timing is perfect.
Cheers!

Hi Silke,

Beautiful view, excellent POV, lighting and comp.
Another shot with slow shutter speed for a milky effect of the falls would be a killer.
