[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
December 27, Niagara Falls, New York:
Linda Unger (the lady with the cute new avatar ;-D) came up from Texas and I made the shorter trip from Richmond Hill, Ontario to meet and shoot the falls in the winter.
To say that it was not the prettiest of days is an understatement. A mixture of snow and rain mixed with the mist from the falls so that my straight hair went dead flat and Linda’s curls puffed up within a very short time.
Despite the weather, the two of us had a great time shooting and chatting the day away, wiping our lenses dry time and again.
In the late afternoon, we were about to head across the border to Canada when the sun suddenly peeped out from under the clouds and we both ran down to shoot the light and the lovely colours.
It was then that I stumbled across a wedding that was being shot with an inexpensive "point and shoot" camera, by someone I first assumed to be a relative. The bride was freezing in her short sleeves and the groom kept putting his hands in his pockets, and here was this photographer dressed warmly and shooting merrily.
I couldn't resist. I stayed out of the way but started taking pictures and Linda soon joined me. We covered them from every angle.
Afterwards, I handed the bride one of my calling cards and suggested she send me an e-mail and Linda and I would give her copies of the pictures as a gift.
Needless to say, we did hear from her, but what we heard was that she never did get pictures from the paid "professional" photographer in question. So she was truly thrilled to get our pictures.
This is the one she chose as being representative of the feeling of the day.

Tech: shot in RAW, adjusted levels, contrast and saturation in RAW, converted to jpg, cropped off some excess walkway at the base, resized, sharpened, framed and signed

Thanks for reading down this far and for any critiques and suggestions that you may have to offer.
For Linda’s version of the event, please see the previous image in the TrekLens gallery (here).

Hello Silke,

I cannot think of a less hospitable place to have a wedding ... your intervention must have been like fairy story! The couple may have been shivering with cold but they had the most stupendous backdrop! You have captured the drama forever!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

just WOW Silke. fantastic mood and the expanse of open space is breathtaking, TFS!

Like the light Silke and the cold feel of the scene, I think I would like to have seen the bit of wood on the left cropped out, only a small thing.

Thanks
Gil

Bad hair day turned great.
The sun piercing through those colors is spectacular making this photo absolutely fantastic. Your playing became a lovely gesture that I am sure these people will be displaying for many years to come.

Excellent/ Great capture. sky is romantic here.

Hello Silke,
I'm pretty sure this place is on the top ten list when it comes to most photographed!
So there are probably no more angles, no other points of view...
But... there can be different light and that you make very well use of!
Impressive.
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Silke,

A bit pat on the back to you two ladies for helping out the Niagria Bride. True TL attitude. You could never have gotten such a wonderful image on a "good" day - love the clouds and their colors - composition is stunning. The bride will remember the chill of the day from your images.

Dan

wonderful shot Silke, good composition, i like the color and appearance of the clouds, it adds an impact to the image.well done.

I think the compo would be enhanced by a crop from the right, Silke, so you'd lose the contraption there (binoculars, I guess?). Apart from that, especially the light is terrific in this shot. A wedding photographer with a p&s, eh... what a rip-off that must have been. These people were lucky you and Linda were at the scene ;o).

hi silke , i was just commenting on lindas shot, what an awesome place to get married just dont fall off the edge!

Hi Silke,
WOW! What a surrealistic wedding photo! I am sure that the new married would like to see that!
The strong point, obviously, is the light making the sky as a great decor. The pose of the bride, the Niagara falls in the left side, the city in background, all elements compose a great and impressive image. Very beautifully done! Annie

Hello Silke.
What a 'lovely' story, you wrote here. Really a roman.
Excellent picture you captured here.
Sure the married couple wil be very glad with the photo's.

Reminds me when our daughter Ingrid got married in Taormina, Sicily, we went to the Old Theatre Greco to make video, by my self. There was a professional with a huge camera, He also started to 'film' her and husband. We told Ingrid she will be on the Italian news in the evening, haha
Best wishes to the couple an regards to you, dear Silke.

Hi Silke

Almost time for me to get some sleep. I like the subtle sunset colours, & partial silhouettes, along the horizon. Good sharpness & dramatic lighting. The wedding couple are a good addition. Tfs!

WOW!! This looks like a nuclear explosion in the BG with all those clouds and lights and steam - and in the FG is this happy wedding occasion - life still goes on in all the turmoil of the BG.
A very interesting image Silke - like 2 different scenes in one.
I like it
Janice

Hi Silke,
What a lovely photo and a wonderful story , it truly is a feel good story! I really like your POV here the color really makes it seem like an vintage photo. Beautiful TFS
Donna:o)

Hi Silke, great atmosphere in your fascinating urban view with superb sky, splendid colors, I like a lot walking couple, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Silke,
the light and sky in the background are a very welcome touch here !
Lovely visual impact. Well done. Best regards, Daniel

A great story to go with the shot, Silke - a perfect example of where notes can help bring an image closer to us. This is a dramatic scene and I am sure it is very "representative of the feeling of the day" as you say. You've captured the moment very well indeed.

Silke,
The entire atmosphere is almost surreal. Nice You used the sunlight very well. I would not crop any part of it like mentioned before.
Cheers,
Wellington

Hi Silke! Wow, the sky is painted by the light! Wonderful effect! This image is superb! great work, the newly weds would be happy to see this one.
Right in my favs!
Well done! Yan :)

Nice romantic photo, stuff i love. The opposite side skyline looks like some medieval castle and the sky like some English romantic painting. as usual the people spoil the effect
:))bringing you back to reality. LOL janos
