One of the great fun parts of sledding for a lot of youngsters is building up a rock-hard mound of snow and then aiming the trusty sled straight for it.

This afternoon at our newest local park, Prairie Hill Park, I caught these two having just hurtled down the hill and run smack-dab against the jump. I'd set my camera controls to "Action" and pre-focused on the jump, so here we have the kids at the very moment of impact. That's not an artifact under the sled, by the way; that's the loop of the sled rope.

Moments later, these kids were rolling up out of the snow, laughing, and trekking back up the hill for more.

I'm right at 100 percent on the crop for this, but no other PP except sizing and sharpening. You'll not see detail on the face of the girl sitting behind, of course, and the girl in front is beyond flat on her back at this moment, but that's only to be expected with snow spraying straight up in front of them.

Hello Jim
Nice capture.. I love this sort of action shot.. just wish I could stay out long enough to get one! I guess that is what the kids say "catching air"

Ouchhhh Jim. Well timed capture moment of the movement. Nice action with snow filled effect. Well done!

Regards,
Jusni

Haha ... the timing was great for this shot! What a moment to capture!

Interesting choice to have the light source behind your subject, on one hand it has made the lighting unusual, on the other it has captured that burst of snow-dust beautifully!

Great work

Hi Jim,
Great winter fun captured here! Nice job with catching the action, and the spray of snow makes us feel it.
Did you have a go at it yourself? ; )
Take care,
Karen
