[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This afternoon, TL member dominant and myself decided to head out into the frozen countryside to do some scouting. There hasn't been much time for photography lately, but today we caught a rare break in our hectic schedules. We weren't really out to shoot pictures, but rather to find places to experiment with under the light of a later full moon.

The destination was the former site of a small rural township in Grand Forks County, which today is nothing more than the remains of a small cemetery on the side a gravel road, amidst an ocean of wheat and soybean fields.

We didn't stop for long, because the below-zero temperatures and the steady north wind made our shutter fingers freeze. But I'm glad we did, because I was able to remind myself that all of these abandonments we like to shoot are not just structures, or meaningless relics of a bygone era. They are intertwined with the lives of real people, many whose relatives still work the land in the same general area. They are reminders that life itself is finite, and that dreams don't die with the dreamers. They live in everything we touch, and will be here long after we are gone.

Here at this small cemetery, with nobody around for miles, I felt a deep sadness for the days gone by, and a burning hope for the days to come. These grave markers stand like pillars of faith, an endless supply of which is necessary to make a life from the land out here.

More from this place in the following weeks...
