Longing

Come to me in my dreams, and then
By day I shall be well again!
For so the night will more than pay
The hopeless longing of the day.

Come, as thou cam'st a thousand times,
A messenger from radiant climes,
And smile on thy new world, and be
As kind to others as to me!

Or, as thou never cam'st in sooth,
Come now, and let me dream it truth,
And part my hair, and kiss my brow,
And say, My love why sufferest thou?

Come to me in my dreams, and then
By day I shall be well again!
For so the night will more than pay
The hopeless longing of the day.

~ Matthew Arnold

i think the feeling behind this one is pretty self explanitory.. i wanted to express the intense sense of longing, both spiritual and sensual, when far from the object of your affection and desires...

oh, and although not present here.. needless to say my dear Bodmin 'helped' me during these shots too :-) he gets rather jealous when i think of another man... ihih

***

shot in low light with no flash for a moody feel, i had one lamp to my left pointed at me to highlight and another to my right pointed towards the fireplace and canopy behind me for extra general illumination and deep shadows

not much PP - slightly cropped, resized, converted to grayscale, sharpened, levels adjusted, some of those bothersome cracks on my walls cloned out, framed & signed (the grain wasn't applied but occured do to the low light.. i thought it added to the mood of the shot)

apologies if i post and run (only figuratively as it will probably be more like a crawl..) i forced myself to come out to the university today even though i've been very weak the last few days and i'm feeling pretty sick and faint.. arghhhh i hate this... :-(( so i think i should go home and back to bed.. but i will be back eventually to write critiques and such dear friends! especially as today looks a pretty inspired posting day on TL :-)

W O W ! (with capital letters this time).
This is nice, princess Chiaraluna, what a mood you've created, indeed, as you mentioned, it is spiritual (the note) and (very) sensual (the photo).
I really like the playing of darkness and light, I like the (well-known) place where you are. Maybe you cropped too much above your head, but I know, it's not easy to make a self-portrait and I only can say, this is a beauty !

I think you have exceeded with this one a 10+ the black accentuates you, and only YOU the rest is just a decorative paint to compliment YOU. The whole thing is just a pretty piece of art and the poem really compliments your photograph. Way to go Ayda.

Ayda, another breathtaking image! I really have no other words...

Hugs,
Cat

Nice really !

Beautiful image. A game between lihgts and shadows. The neck is sublime. If I were Dracula, I would salivate with this shot.

No many words...only it's very sensual and direct,it's enought expletive by oneself.
Sei davvero molto brava e bella.

This is way cool. It is sensual and spiritual, a mixture I believe made famous by Elvis Presley, but that's another story. To be picky, I would like a tad more light on your face. The light falls mostly on the breasts (not that I mind!) and I think you have a beautiful face. Very creative and down right raw! B

Ayda, what a fantastic expressive sensual image. The lighting represents your levels of expression quite well. Whoever is on the receiving end of this message/imagery should be quite ecstatic for the mood of feeling blasting out of this photo.
I am wondering about the top of the image where your hair is cropped. The drapes frame you so well and with your hair slightly cut it just kind of makes me want to add some more top to the composition. I agree with padre about a tad more light on your face. Ok, enough of that.
Wonderful, extremely thoughtful expression portrayed here.

Michael

Very sensual indeed. And also very courageous. BRAVO.
Paul

I don't know what to say Ayda, except that you seem to be doing these self portraits better and better! In this one I couldn't recognise you...
The lighting is soft, but the contrast intense and this fits perfectly with what you said in your note.
It is a very powerful photo and you've definitely put your emotions in it, that's why it worked so well.
Brava e bella, like Edie said!!
Congratulations Ayda.

Well Ayda, I guess you're right- b&w and the light make the mood of this shot, but you also have a very strong pose here. I'm glad you chose photography as a way out of the longing - and shared the result with us ;o). I love the high contrast here. TFS.

Ayda, this is wonderful.
Very sensual and stark, evocative of longing hopefulness. The shadowing is brilliant. Well done.
Michael

I'll come back tomorrow as I have run out of points, but I just wanted to stop by now and say how marvelous this is. The grain, the contrast...and the pose, all very very good. Good use of your small light. Although a bit more space could be used at the top of the composition, you've done extremely well for a self portrait. All that running back and forth to the shutter release. Well done Ayda.

The pose , the contrast ....the sensuality ...everything is great about this picture..just on your face i would like to see more light ...nevertheles a great shot !

Oh Ayda…what can I say/written…the beauty is captured in a beautiful picture!!!

You look so great Ayda and it’s so romantic. The atmosphere of the composition and note are so well, that my words are just insignificant.
Thanks to share this one with us and I hope you don’t border that I put this one to my favourites Ayda ;-)

Hello,Princess Ayda! The name "princess" suits you well here! Very sensual and suggestive photo! You are a real self portait master! ..and maybe a Mistress! Hi Hi ! Very well done! Appreciate it! Good night,Ayda! < _> --- Michel

This is amazing.

I noticed in a few of the critiuqes above there was mention crop. I feel that the 'empty' space infront of you is what really makes this... you are alone, longing, feeling sad and the dark shadow over your face reinforces this feeling as does the tilt of your head and your hand clutching at your aching heart.

The crumpled sheets denote restlessness as is always the case when we are longing for the one we love. This image is superb and you make a very good model too.

I do feel that to the right side of the image, the highlights are slightly over exposed, but with the rest of it being so great I feel ashamed to mention it. Thank you for this posting, it really touched me

Take Care,

Lance

Hard contrast on this picture! very well paused! Sugesstive... Great B&W...

Wow! Another queen of self portrait...

Not only sensual, this photo suggest a very intense thought. I really like the position of the hand, a kind of "struggle for life"...
Light and B/W are very good too!

Marc.

For sure this is a great pic. There is a lot of compliments to make about this shot Ayda. The task is not easy. But most of all this is a great model too, giving the depth to the picture. I like your style but I must confess I like narrow cropping too. Here there is a lot of things that are not totally usefull to get the perfect pic. I did a WS. I must say that I do WS often on picture I like the most. My goal isn't to show a better version but I really like to do PP on such a great base. I hope you understand well my idea when doing this WS.
See you and take care to your stuffs.
Have nice day.
Denis.
(I'm out of points, I'll be back tomorrow)

ACCIDENTI!!!!

Wow is the word for this one my dear Ayda. You may be feeling unwell but your photography is in such strenght. Such beauty and feeling is not often expressed. I adore the soft shadow to the right.

Exquisite. Hugs and love

Hi Ayda
First of all, thanks for commenting my picture. I loved the ballet workshop. I tried BW too, but yours was better, since you added space on the right side and added frame, cleaned out the background and so on...I saw your pictures and despiste my preference of not like too much post processing using effects, i guess you really know how to use it. Among the pictures, i choosed this one to comment, since is not hard post processed and also the use of light and shadows gives an atmosphere very nice. Maybe could have a bit more of light on your face. Anyway, i loved the picture.

This is just great photo!

I think you did it very well, Ayda. If she is you in this picture, I can imagine it could be hard to shot yourself! Well done :)

j'aime beaucoup le travail que vous présentez, mais si je ne poste pas plus de commentaires, c'est simplement que les mots me manquent pour définir ce que je ressens. vous avez énormément de talent Ayda. un grand bravo

Stunning, simply stunning.
