My precious little baby...
I have loved you from the start.
You are a tiny miracle
laying closely to my heart
Each day I feel your presence
each day you quickly grow
each day your heart beats softly
as only I could know
So I'll keep this in a special place
and remember each day through
of this very special time of life
the months I carried you.... -unknown author

Camera was medium Yashica 120 mm and film was Tri-X developed at 68 degrees for 6 minutes in D76. Printed on rag paper for archive. Scanned in via Microtek I800.

I was working full time for Comcorp Newspapers as a photographer. We were expecting our third child, which ended up being a girl who we named Patrica Jane...she is known now as PJ. And this was an image I took of my wife only 5 weeks before PJ was born. We were managers of a small apartment complex in Cleveland Heights Ohio. We also owned part of a Mexican food eatery which we located in an Italian Delicatessen in a back corner.

Jane always thought that this was perhaps the best picture ever taken of her. It is also one of the very few which made it through all these years, other than my news work shots.

I posed her in the front window. We live half above and half below ground on the lowest floor but had full light. I used a tripod which was extremely rare for me. This is also the first time this photo has ever been out of this house. It was never published and only shared among family and friends.

Jane and I ended up having 7 children. 6 were boys, but this was the only girl. She is obviously picture in the womb here... and in decent format. Today PJ is a nurse and works with the most seriously ill cardiac patients in the world. She is a well known and well loved nurse. I hope you can appreciate the sensitivity in which I publish this. I am not really open to critiques...If you wish to leave a point or two that is ok...but please...I can't go back to 1974 and I have no longer a darkroom so it would make no difference..

Sincerely to TL with love
Bob and Jane

Bob and Jane,

This is a beautiful photo of such a special moment in your lives. I love the lighting, the pose, and I can only imagine your thoughts. Your attire in the photo is what really does it for me! All of the pleats and folds, feminine capped sleeves, the sheer quality of it just adds so much to the photo.

Congratulations on your seven children.

thanks for sharing this treasure with us, Lisa

Dear Bob and Jane
What a wonderful image - so very special and precious to have.
Here are some words from my favourite book. As soon as I saw your photo I thought of them:

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

Janice

I really love this picture and your note. Pregnant women look so beautiful and should always have a picture taken at that time. I never did. This is really special and I'm glad you shared it with us.

Bob,
Tender feelings well conveyed to film...
Regards,
Pablo -

Hello Bob,

I think you were brave to share this with the world, but I am glad you did!
This is such a 'moving' photograph! It is serene, wistful, beautiful ... oh, so many emotions that are difficult to express!

I have read the interminable argument about what makes a good photograph, is the camera or the photographer? The answer is here for everyone to share.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
(I'm so glad I didn't miss this one.)

Hello Bob,
What an absolute treasure! Perfect in every way. Thank you for sharing this one with us.
Take care,
Karen

Hola Bob.
Una entrañable imagen la que has publicado aquí.
Una escena bucólica y con magníficos detalles, contando con que han pasado 34 años...!
Un cordial saludo y tfs, JL.

A stirring, poignant photo, Bob. Fine mood; deft expression; well done. 'Nough said :)

This is a photo that must have been very unique, as photos like this were not commonplace as they are today. It is very tasteful, and it is beautiful. The light/shadows are just right. Perfect.

Ciao Bob, nice see your wife and youir daughter:)
See you tomorrow, ciao Silvio
