...

A watched pot will never boil
Or so the proverbs say
A longed for love will never come
Or so it seems that way

My eyes they scan for signs of life
To give my hopes a chance
My heart leaps at the slightest sound
But is lead a merry dance

The wait, the wait, the wait goes on
But still no sweet release
For a watched pot will never boil
Nor a desperate heart find peace..

how many of us have waited with a heavy heart by a phone that never rings...

***

this was taken freehand at night without flash and with the lamp itself as the main source of light

i liked the simplicity with the profound darkness interupted only by that soft delicate glow of illumination and hope.. i thought at first that i would have liked an old fashioned phone to use but.. on second thoughts the emotion i'm trying to convey is an 'actual' one and not just a romantic image.. and i think the contrast of the modern cell phone with the old fashioned lamp can also be a metaphor to how the romance, beaty and indeed heartbreak of love remains the the same throughout time... whether dressed in the robes of a shakespearian tragedy or an ordinary modern life touched by the extraordinary and timeless power of love...

other than the obvious resizing for TL and framing, nothing was done to this except grayscale conversion and a little unsharp mask

a bit of 'back to basics' still life photography i hope you'll enjoy :-)

thank you all so much for your kind wishes regarding my health.. it's a constant struggle but i'm feeling a little stronger and all of your sweetness and support is a great help and comfort ^_^

Ayda, masterful lighting and composition. I was in two minds about the phone at first. I thought some writing paper, a pen and inkpot may be better but now that I have returned to the picture I think the modern phone sits well against the antique lamp. Great work. Paul.

I love this image. The light is so soft and subtle but perfectly bright enough. Congratulations on a fine shot.

Hi Ayda,
A soft image for the soft words you are waiting for. I hope you don't have to wait too long.
Take care.
Richard

The soft light is wonderful. The contrast between the classic and the modern works really well.

Modern still-life and very well taken in the "dark". I like the jet-black B/W, maybe a little crop in the bottom to avoid the edge of the table, but a great and modern shot, Ayda !

What a fantastic composition!!! Everything looks perfect, from the light to mood.
And that is so true... Waiting for the phone to ring is terrible, almost as terrible as when it finaly rings and... no, it's not the one we wanted to listen too :-(
Great mood! A beauty! A gem!
Bravissima!

The light play is perfect here. The cell phone - adds something here, I feel it's needed. I would think about this small piece of cable on the left - I'm not sure if it was intentional...? Anyway, good work.

Piotr

Hello Ayda...Soft tones are impressive in the photo...Contrast is great...Vertical composition works well here...Thank you for sharing...

Ayda,
this is just superb!! I love every detail of this shot and specially the light.. it seems to be all the composition suspended in time (as the romance itself, maybe?).
contrast of shapes and modern/antique is strong here but made a great matche.
One of my favs now :o)))))))))))
Congrats.

This is an exceptional photo,Ayda! Excellent composition! Nothing more to say except Bravo! Michel

Wow, beautiful composition, Ayda. I find this shot very modern looking, very metallic. At the limit, we could find it cold. But it works marvelously. Excellent!

Simple but very good! Excellent definition. The context amuse me. Phone have a way to ring exactly when you are busy... and if you expected a call... You wait... :o)
Greatly show :o)

I like this photo, very simple but strong idea. Light is perfect. But the most impressive is the dimansion that the photo take with the title.
I'm a big fan of your title, they're always perfect for your photos!

Beautiful composition and light which conveys very strong mood. The details of the lamp are so special and this add to the picture. I'd call it an art.

So nice,oh yes a masterpiece. What a quality of photography, the lightning just OK, THE SUBJECT IS SO SIMPLE BUT GREAT AT THE SAME TIME. WELL I LOVE IT, CONGRATS .

Hi Ayda..Such a haunting poem written by a beautiful heart....
And a lovely work of art to accompany it. I like the simplicity of your composition and the complexity of it's meaning. The phone works well as you chose. Just beautiful....:O)

Hi Miss Ayda. I missed this. Glups. I'm unforgivable. This picture talk so much to me. The note is great and makes the photo take its complete meaning. Waiting ours and ours fo ra phone that never ring is for the moment my second "favorite" activity after TL. The little moon in the corner is excellent. It shows that at night the chance that the phone starts to ring raise down... I like what you've done right there. It is a usefull picture. Thanks for that.
Big hugs, take care.
Denis.

This is super!!!
It has a mysterious mood. The lamp just in view with the cell phone crisp and sharp. This is an art piece, excelent work, Ayda.
Well done.

Mike

This is a great shot Ayda, conveying the mood you wanted to show very well. The B&W with soft lighting is excellent.

This is a very sharp picture. The quality is impressive, I have no difficulty imaging it as an ad in a magazine. I like the minimalistic feel to it. It's a simple composition but very symbolic. This goes into favorites, great shot!

Hi! Ayda,
Stunningly Athmospheric, and Technically perfect. A masterly use of lighting, for it is the quality of the lighting here that conveys the mood. I must investigat this make of camera. Ayda.
The tonal range here surpasses that of Old bromide printing.
You have done for digital what fibre did for bromides.

************** A triumph for the age of digital *************

TFS.
Mike.

THAT IS SUPERB, pro work, thanx, M, (*_*)

Superb! Is all I can say.
