I moved to the Semi-Tropics from "Up North"...Up North Mississippi from Tupelo. (Where Elvis was born, Hans!) Plants and flowers did not prosper well in the cold winters of ice and snow "up north". So I am not accustomended to the easy, showy display of glorious plants and flowers year round. But I sure love it!
This is a Christmas Cactus that the former owner of my home left befind as she said it had never bloomed. One month after I had been here it bloomed profusely...in March. These are supposed to bloom around Christmas time. Since that time it has bloomed four times, missing Christmas! Now it is budding out again and I am amazed.
This will be a short series of the life cycle of it's bloom. These are the first little tips showing and I will photo it as it progresses to its glorious beauty for you to see.
Stay tuned to watch this fabulous transformation that only nature can provide for us.

There is little processing on either of these photos. I cloned out some distracting stuff in the lower photo.

Thanks for your visit and to all Mothers this weekend, may you be treated well by your children and have a very wonderful Mother's Day.....and to those who have lost a child, I know how you feel and we will survive the day.......:O)

Great shots Kat, we have easter cactus here which flower around the same time, never seen a christmas cactus flower so early. Must be your green fingers that are doing the trick.

Okay, okay, Elvis was born.....:-))
And Christmas-time, nice and funny, this flower, Christmas Cactus:-)) and what a funny story, he just like to joke with you, he doesn't know, when it is Christmas, some flowers do have that indeed.
A nice collage it is for sure, dear Kathleen, but the flower, a strange one you have here:-))
P.S. I like the May-bells....

A very beautiful little buds. I can hardly wait to see the others as they progress. A beautiful macro with astonishing detail! The DOF is great as well as the colors. Thanks for sharing your green thumb with those of us not so endowed.

Christmas in may!! Poor little cactus that keeps missing christmas :D
I like the way you chose to present this shot and the very bright and saturated colours. Well done Kath!

Ana

Very nice creation and presentation,Kat! I like your Christmas cactus because they are marginal and rebel, they do not go with the flow, therefore they become very attractive and interesting for me!...A little joke, this morning! This is beautiful and very pleasant for the eyes,Kat! Congratulations! Michel
