a little mothers day present for my wonderful mum.. a brilliant courageous woman and truly invaluable friend.. and like this rose nurtured by mother earth, she not only gave me life but most importantly, let me grow..

i love you mummy!! :-)

***

the technique i used to create this effect is something i came across accidentally when playing with various filter combinations in photoshop the other day.. it doesn't work on all types of photos but when it does it produces an effect i really love.. it's so soft and subtle and i think it makes things look almost like they're made of porcelain.. so expect to see it pop up a lot in future posts :-)

the original shot was cropped tight and resized then:

* ran through neat image
* clone tool used to tidy up a few specs and such
* levels adjusted to deepen shadows and unsharp mask to sharpen
* used the high pass filter to create strong stone like highlights
* then the diffuse glow filter to add glow and grain to complete the effect
* more levels adjustment to slightly increase contrasts
* colour balance and saturation adjustments to achieve the desired hue
* usm again to make the grain texture stand out more
* then finally framed and signed

a big hug to all the mothers out there! this is for you too ^_^

A lovely flower made 'special' for your Mum. I like the post processing effects, especially all that grain. Nice work.

Happy Mother's Day Mum .... love Bodmin.

i love you mummy!! :-)

This is so sweet.......

Nice PP work to create a beautiful work of art. Very soft and pleasant to look at. Maybe a bit too much pink to my taste, I would have preferred a slightly bolder colour, but that's really a matter of taste. Still, an excellent posting, and what a beautiful frame!

You've really achieved a fantastic result Ayda!! I really like that pp work you've done for the photo.
I am sure that your mother loved it too. A beautiful surprise, from a caring daughter! Well done my dear friend :D
Ciao.

Ana

You transform a simple rose an i piece of art. Like a mother who transform a lot of littles things in great matter for her children :o)
The kind of noise applied here. Work very well!

Very artistic approuch you have done on the rose ayda..Excellent work on the pp !!

To me the effect you created with the textures achieves and connotes a certain permanency. Interesting that you mentioned "porcelain" in your note; porcelain is far from "permanent," can be very fragile, yet, at the same time that it can convey delicacy and beauty, it is also very strong and can survive for eons, if treated right. Contrasts are striking and deep: like a woman. So I bring all this together: to me, a wonderful Mother's Day tribute, encompassing lots of the qualities of "quality" mothers. I thank you, Ayda -- I miss my mother a lot; she would have enjoyed the beauty and delicacy (yet durability (LOL!!!!) of your image. Thanks again for all the tech notes -- very helpful. regards, ck

The pink thumbnail caught my eye. It looked like a pink mousse dessert (there I am talking about food again!). Anyway, I was pleased to open it and find the beautiful rose. I like the filters you used to get the effect. To me it looks like it has been made of a fabric. I like the pale overall effect you have made. It's great!
