***Don’t panic…timer used.

So this is me, in my cowgirl gitty-yup…..Clothes do NOT a Cowgirl make!! NO I don’t drink, I don’t smoke and I don’t chew (eewwww) I don’t hang around in bars, I don’t even own a horse, a ranch or a stable. I’ve never served liquor in a saloon. In fact I’m a little afraid of horses as I had a bunch stampede over me when I was little.

I do, however, like to put on my cowboy boots and go dancing every so often, but I can’t take too much cigarette smoke..it makes me sick…(what a wimp!) So while I dress all up, it doesn’t make me a cowgirl…I’m just a dime store imitation, nothing but a floosy!

How The Shot Was Made:
I got some photo lights from my brother-in-law and so one night, while Shelby was out and Dave wasn’t home yet from work, I transformed my living room into a photo studio, complete with backdrop and then I got all dressed up just for the fun of it and took some shots. I really don’t like smiling for pictures, it seems contrived. However after about 10 shots, I set up the timer, ran over and sat in the chair again with the hat and Dave walks through the door “What ARE YOU DOING??”…and I turned and laughed and the timer went off. Poor Dave, his living room is often transformed into things he doesn’t like,…mainly because it blocks the TV!

So the only reason I’m posting this one, instead of my really COOL James Dean expressions is because Silke made me…(she twisted my arm!).. HAHAHAHA!.... So this is for her, a smile, a laugh, this is pretty hysterical for me, as I tend to be more “dry”. I have a GREAT poker face...there's alot that goes on behind those eyes, but unless you know me, you can't tell what card I'm holding!
Please don’t throw too many tomatoes! They have Salmonella! I have a fragile EGO! HAHAHA!

Processing:
Converted from RAW. I did layers, adding a heavy ORANGE tint, the backing it off to about 20%. I did vignetting, darkened the pic, and the came back with Dodge tool and popped in highlights were I could.
Thanks and Have a GREAT day!
Linda

Andro

Nice pov of your self portraiture Linda the cowgirl :-)
Dennis

Hahahaha! :-)

I admire your bravery, your imagination and the effort that went into the shot. You've achieved a great result here, Linda - I especially like the vignetting. It adds nicely to the overall feel. Good stuff!

Hi Linda
Wonderful portrait.Great compo and colours.
Thanks for the note.
Have a nice WE!!
J.Diogo

Thanks sooo much Silke - she was absolutely right here - love what you did.
That BG made me think of an old western picture, as do the colourtones here.
Ready to go dancing and play some poker when the smoke gets in your eyes - love it!

Thanks
Els

This is really great!! I love the sepia and the fact that you look so relaxed! Very nice lighting and background. Have a great day!

Hi Linda

'Clothing Does Not a Cowgirl Make'. Oh well, back to the ironing board! A fantastic self portrait with an attractive rumpled high key bg & superb diffused light. Tfs, Annie Oakley! I'll be quiet now. Annie was a sharpshooter, & rarely missed her target. I'd like to make it through the weekend, & won't push my luck on Black Friday!

Hello linda

nice portrait, PP is very good, funny to see that I used same kind of PP on my last portraits :)

nicely done

HI Linda
You are wearing the wrong clothes to be a floosy.
Cowgirl or not you look the part and you did a good job of showing us.

Well done and TFS,

Hi Linda,

:D This is a great shot Linda! I really got a giggle out of your note. Nice interesting textures with the backdrop, chair, hat, clothing, etc... Love the coloring you chose. Not familiar with the term vignetting, but I'll check into it.

Great addition to the theme! LIsa

Hi Linda,
You have the bravery of a cow-girl!
John Wayne and you in a western film could make a great hit!|
Very nice set-up for this self-portrait as old saloon version!
My compliments! Annie

Funny comment on the tomatoes! I Love it.. But we could still use the small ones! ;)

Really nice work here.. In the setting up stages right to Pp work.. I really like the vignetting look.. Well done!

Tricia

Great one, Linda. Self-portraits aren't easy but you set this one up really well. You look very natural and the clothes and your smile look comfortable and nice. You did quite well with the lighting, too. Of course you're a real cowgirl -- you live in Texas, don't you??? Cheers -
Sandy

A mighty fine moment captured. I like the sense of humor conveyed, and it looks like you had fun staging this. The sepia tone works and the ruffled clothing background intensifies my admiration. Have a good w/e Linda. Danilo

We have a bunch of work going on here at home and the backdrop in thi shot looks like much of out home does, drop-cloths everywhere; a necessary evil. :0)
So, once I got to actually look at the image, and read your note about it, I got to appreciate how neat a shot it actually is, a candid self-portrait of all things, very cool. :0)
Got shot, good post work and well composed, given the circumstances.

Excellent self portrait Linda and very good PP work. Nice tones, well posed and the backdrop works well. As long as I can walk around in the dark I don't mind what Sandy does to our living room :).

Hehe, I like this Linda!

My favourite thing about this self-portrait is the very wide angle lens you used. The distorting effect combined with the corner-vignetting give it such a stylish feel, elevating this from being "another portrait" into being something with a real edge. It could be seen as quirky, spooky, offbeat ...

I like it.

Hi Linda,

Hi Linda,
This is superb! Glad to see you in whole one piece hahahaha. Not joking it's an excellent picture, great light. The desaturation is perfect! Great sharpness, your pose is priceless. Good to see you improvised a studio :-) I'll ad this to my TL favorites!

Hello Linda,
Beautiful old classic movie look here.
The sepia makes sense perfect.
Well composed shot lady. TFS

Are you REALLY blaming this on Silke? You have really gone to a great deal of effort for the theme. Having said that the picture and the note allow your fans an insite into the person whose pictures we critique and that is a very good thing. Maybe "self portrait" would be a good Friday Theme. Mmmmmmm that might be scarry.

Dan

Hello Linda!

Hello Linda Unger, known also as Calamity, Shelby's mom, Dave's wife, Silke's friend of smiles (and I have a wild guess she's a great deal more to you than that...), and least but not last, one of the best TL photographers and critique writers! I'm very glad to finally see you in this excellently composed self-portrait, with a very straight-forward attitude (I couldn't have expected anything less from you, especially beacuse Silke helped and twisted your arm...:))) Your improvised studio turned out really good, so let me congratulate you for the most brilliant idea you had again! I love the overall sepia feel here, with a refined and very subtle tonality range...I guess this shot says a lot about who you are...A very direct person but as I already said, very subtle and refined, and who makes bold statements with a whole lot of good common sense.
You go, girl! And your self-portrait goes in my favorites cathegory! ;)
Diana

What a great shot! A very cool self portrait - the note completes it. I had a lot of fun reading how you got to this photo! Loving the PP work. Thanks for sharing!

Cheers,

Cadi

For always surprising. You've got a way, totally unique to present things. I'm quite a fan.
I find this portrait particully interesting. Great self portrait. Also know, it's not a recent posting of yours...but could help to comment this one.
Nice use of wide angle, great perspective.
Beautyfull contrast...strong shadow and highlight areas.

This shot reveal your true texan roots, probably as much as I feel for my acadien one.

Nice work Linda
