This afternoon, I drove out to Old Crossing Treaty State Historical Wayside Park, a short drive east of me in Huot, Minnesota. I had planned to launch my canoe there into the Red Lake River, and paddle upstream to scout out a 400+ acre public forest plot, to do some fishing and get some new ideas for the upcoming fall.
When I got there, I found the river level very high and the current very swift. There has been a lot of rain lately, and the Red Lake River and many of its tributaries are swollen with runoff. Fighting that current for every inch of northward travel, I didn't make it far before I turned around and floated back to the landing.
I found this memorial near the park's entrance, off of a gravel road in rural Red Lake County. The many flowers were fresh, someone is taking the time to keep the monument clean and colorful.
According to the plaque, it was put up in 1934 by a Rev. E. Bossus, who left the inscription, "Ask and you shall receive."
I did a little black and white conversion here, leaving only the flower in the child's hand with its color.
An interesting find in the countryside. I hope you enjoy it... |
