[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this shot last night, after another great round of storms in the south part of Houston. I sat outside with a friend and watched the sky just explode again with lots of colors and drama!
I set up this shot by putting my camera outside on my neighbors truck and tried different F stops until I settled on this one. The lightening was coming at about a flash every 2 or 3 seconds, So I just went for long exposures, hoping for a BIG one...and this is the
one I got. I LOVE that jagged bolt right out of the cloud. The cloud itself was moving as you can see the blur of it....but the bolt and the trees are sharp. I love the blue in this!
Have a great day!
Linda

The capture is breath-taking but the composition really adds a lot. I love that bolt escaping from the cloud

hi linda, i have often wondered how to take a long shutter shot with moving clouds but i guess they just blur (which by the way i can hardly tell!) that little bolt of lighting is perfectly placed and really makes this image sing!
nice work,
take care, did you see john's post?, was that touching or what,
tfs,
scott

Hi Linda,

Wow, that's great you could capture this bold of lightning coming out of the cloud. This looks very impressive and I like your image very much.

Greetings, Nel

Good timing!! I would love to take a picture like this, but I'm sure I'd just have a blur. The colors in the clouds are really pretty as well. You should be really proud of this one. Hope this finds you well.

Hi Linda

A superb decisive moment shot, & very tricky, to capture the lightning. Good color, sharpness, & framing. Congratulations on getting one of your images of the stormcloud, published in both a local tabloid, & tv news show! Tfs!

Impressive Linda, the cloud seems to be filled with light and the bolt was well captured. A little noise which is to be expected in darker colours such as this. Nice,
David

Hi Linda,

Hope you did not put yourself in danger by being outside. The last years more and more people are hit by lighning here in Holland. I never was afraid, but it got me thinking.
Must say I just love to be out and watch spectacles like this - so you think long exposure is the way to go to have a chance to capture lightning.....
Glad you succeeded, that light behind the stormclouds give great effect.
Thanks!

Els
