This young fan was very intent on the minor league baseball game we attended. His parents sat in the row behind him, next to us, and explained the different plays as the game went on.

The game was at Cooper Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. The team, the Columbus Clippers, is the AAA "farm team" for the major league New York Yankees.

I took a lot of action shots of the players that day, but this was one of my favorites, because of how he cradled his precious glove in his left hand while jotting down every statistic. He was the perfect embodiment of the young fan.

My biggest challenge was catching him still enough to get a clear shot, that and framing the shot to remove distracting background elements. The only post-processing I did was some minor color adjustment, framing, and editing out a soda bottle cap near his glove.

A minor technicality which I didn't notice at the time, but pleased me while I was editing: This is the only one of several rapid-fire shots which had the pencil poised "just so" between the bill of his cap and his face. In all the other shots, the pencil was obscured by his hat or his face!

Kimberley, this is a fine image, well exposed and with enough information for even a baseball ignorant Aussie like me to correctly interpret :) The elbow is distracting, but of course its owner's presence defines the exact environment, so it's half a dozen of one, six of another as far as that goes :)

Sheldon

Hi Kimberley, beautiful picture, although I don't know the first thing about baseball. You can tell the kid is so engrossed in it and his life at this moment is completely focused on the sport. great compo and great colors too
