These old Boeing/Stearman have had a long and hallowed history of military service before their retirement to the "show" circuit. This the third of four postings from the Columbia Airport Father's Day Fly-In.

Raw image processed in CS3, sharpened, sized and framed.

Wikipedia: The Stearman (Boeing) Model 75 is a biplane, of which 8584 were built in the United States during the 1930s and 1940s as a military trainer aircraft. Stearman became a subsidiary of Boeing in 1934. Widely known as the Stearman, Boeing Stearman or Kaydet, it served as a Primary trainer for the USAAF, as a basic trainer for the USN (as the NS1 & N2S), and with the RCAF as the Kaydet throughout World War II. After the conflict was over, thousands of surplus aircraft were sold on the civil market. In the immediate post-war years they became popular as crop dusters and as sports planes.

Boeing Stearman E75 (PT-13D) of 1944The Kaydet was of rugged construction, and conventional biplane design with large, fixed tailwheel undercarriage, and accommodation for the student and instructor in open cockpits in tandem. The radial engine was usually uncowled, although some Stearman operators choose to cowl the engine, most notably the Red Baron Stearman Squadron.

I wonder why you tilted the image, Dan... the plane's parking inclination is more than you show here, apparently. Okay, that's a minor issue... the colours you've captured are stunning, contrast nicely with the surroundings, and the overall sharpness impeccable.

Can't beat those colors and clear blue sky! Good composition with interesting angles and viewpoints of the different planes. Looking forward to the fourth post:)

Hi Daniel,

Nice interesting pov from under the wing. The blues and yellows make for a bright spot at the airfield.

Great sharpness, detail, and color!

Hello, Dan
since I've not seen another posting since your marvellous fireworks, I took the time to poke into your recent offerings again. This one jumped out at me because of the strong colours. And of course, the yellow against blue is the perfect contrast (colour wheel opposites).
Very fine composition with clean diagonals, excellent clear details.
