After a nice little ride on the motorcycles, the gang and I stopped at a local Dairy Queen for an ice cream and we were all sitting outside when I heard it.."HOOOONNNKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK"..... the train!!!... so I dropped the ice cream... and grabbed my camera and RAN...as fast as I could to the tracks...just in time to raise the camera and take this shot. The train was moving about 30 mph I would say. The truck you see on the other side of the tracks was parked, no he wasn't almost hit.
I had fun with this because to me "desaturation" is a graduated process, on a sliding scale, rich color to BW. So this is my post! Hope you like it!
I'm so glad it's Friday! Hope you have a good one!
Linda

What I like about this is the surreal quality, as if the train were breaking through from a dream world into the real world – excellent concept.
Very fine composition, of course :)

Hello Linda,

This is very original because no-one else has interpreted it this way.
You really have a point though! The train appears to be travelling so fast that the colour has become a blur!
Great pov and composition.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Nice freeze frame and perspective of the train at the crossing. I like the dark and moody murky feel of the core image which just amplifies the color portion of the image.
Nice work on this.
(I might have taken the telephone pole and transformers off, but no big deal)

Hi Linda,I like the originality of this image, perfect choice for Fridays theme,I also like the gradual blurring effect to the train with the front blasting through sharp as a tack.

Sorry about your ice cream.

amazing effect. The train seems coming from the another world. Well done dear.

nice creative idea, I like the crop and darkening around the edges. You could make it even more dramatic if you did a layer on top of this one and appied a radial: zoom blur and then took thesmudge tool and played with it. then you could just bring the opacity down to like 40% and erase the colored part of the layer. remind me to do a ws later
well done,
shelby

Linda Hi;
Very creative Friday Theme. Excellent artwork.

Hi Linda,
How I like this progressive desaturation! The train seems really to emerge from fog in all the senses of the word!
Very good idea for the theme et superb PP work! Congratulations! Annie

Hi Linda,

Well done my friend.TFS

Hi Linda... one of the few original ideas for this theme, well done, good to see a bit of originality...and a fine composition... regards h

this is really different than any desaturation i have seen. looks great how you just blended the colors into the black and white.

Very well captured Linda. Nice definition on the front of the train and jut enough colouring.
David

Yes..yes...yes! This is superb! Great PP work as if the train runs from the Black&white past in to the coloured future. Excellent PP work marvelous idea. A fine addition to Smurfie's theme :-)
Hans

...and keep your mirror up all the time, I want to have a look at the real Calamity, not her mirror image :-)

hi linda, awesome shot, the color you added is perfectly placed in this already good composition, nice work, TGIF!!!
scott

Brilliant idea, Linda, remarkable pp work, too! You've added a great sense of motion to the shot, I don't imagine the train was moving at the actual time when the shot was being taken... I may be wrong, in which case your shot is even more precious.
THANK YOU for sharing this magnificent shot!
Best regards,
Diana

I like above all the graduation you applied in the desaturation work.
It adds something fairy-like to the pic, despite the contemporary subject.
TFS
Ciao, Antonella

good capture of the train, Linda.. lovely desaturation posting for the theme.. who would thought of posting train shot.. i like the blur back.. good one.. tfs..

have a lovely weekend.

Hi Linda

I like the title, as well as the effect. The train does indeed appear to be breaking free of the bg. Tfs!

"graduated process, on a sliding scale, rich color to BW"
you got it !
very well done PP
regards
jo

Hello Linda,

A sheer power shot I like the
B&W to color. I lived in the
US and I miss the long trains
over their, I'd say that wagons
had plenty of color, Did you slow
the shutter speed down and get
the colors blured?

TFS
Aidan.

hi linda.
sorry i missed this yesterday but i was entertaining guests.

this is a piece of magic.
the train seems to be bursting out of the b/w to get back to the reality of colour.

a master craftsperson (politicaly correct) at work.
Brian

Really nice this shot Linda - is the blur intentional down the train? Either way it looks good, as if the thing's just arrived through some kind of 'worm hole' - very effective with the gradual desaturation.
Cheers
David

Hi Linda,
my hobby.. Train! Beautiful compo, nice idea a B/W mode. Brava!.
Greetings from Italy..

Hi Linda,

How'd I miss this one?

Terrific creativity with the desaturation. Great imagination, excellent post processing. I really like how you gradually blended the colors.

Congrats! ~ Lisa

Hello Linda,
I am having a good laugh at the moment reading this one line where you mention '' so i dropped the ice cream '' when you heard the train coming , hehe ,,,i also get the idea ( i am just so much like you ! ) as even good thing like ice cream can go to waste to make 'the shot'! Well you did run to a good scene , i like how you got just the front of the convoy desaturated ( the whole train could have been desaturated for more impact ,just my opinion ) , a well composed subject for the theme Linda,
congrats,
Carol

Clever shot, pp work and title. The whole things works very well and shows good imagination. I like the note as well.

Hi Linda,

Very original! Very nice idea to let the train come out of the B&W in colour. Good scharpness and nice movement in the photo.
Well done!

TFS greetings Simone

Hi Linda,

Funny post processing work! Not just the desaturation, but also the slight motion blur you added to the back part of the train. Interesting! :-)

Greetings,
Dennis

Hiya Linda

Absolutely superb my friend. A really great shot, lovely angle and very effective PP work.

TFS and for joining in the theme

Kind regards Helen

Trains are always exciting, aren't they? I tried something similar in a different way, called 'night train', but I like yours a lot.
