well.. a bit of a necessary change of emotional pace for me today... i'm in need of some light relief from endless soul searching and working my way through all the boxes of tissues in the house...

so i thought i'd do something for the hunt as time is running out.. here's my entry for the 'delicious' category which i had lots of other ideas for but am just too tired to be as adventurous as i'd hoped.. but i guess you can't really go wrong with chocolate when it comes to deliciousness right? hope it tickles your fancy anyway :-)

***

shot in macro mode about 8 inches away with strong overhead light and no flash, composition is as taken so no cropping done, i'll post the original as a ws

F-stop 2.9, Shutter Speed 1/3 seconds, ISO 100, Spot Metering

* ran through neat image for that advert style 'airbrushed' look
* minor cloning of a few chocolate specs and smudges
* small portion of left side selected up to the wrapper line then the selection inverted
* with the large right side portion now selected, i applied a gradient map mask with a black & white gradient and set to reverse which created this strong b&w effect
* adjusted levels only on that selected portion to enhance the strength and contrasts of the b&w effect
* with the magic wand tool i selected the white background area around the chocolate bar on the left side and copied it to a new layer
* i made the main background layer invisible so i could only see the new copied layer and made sure there was none of the wrapper still present by cutting out any small remaining pieces
* then on only this layer i raised the brightness by 35% and decreased the contrast also by 35% - this insured a nice even white background for the left portion of the image
* i made that layer invisible and revealed the old background to adjusted levels on the chocolate and enhance it
* then made all layers visible again to reveal the new brighter white background on the left side and flattened both layers back to one
* selecting only the left portion once again i applied some USM to sharpen
* then added a 17 pixel wide border mask over the whole image set to 60% opacity and in a mid grey colour to give a contrasting translucent inner border on both the white and black sections of the picture
* and finally added another general frame to the whole thing and signed it

phew... it was a lot easier doing it then writing it... but i know people like details and i always aim to please :-)

hope you like my little sweet treat.. sorry i can't upload the full experience of it's chocolatey goodness.. but i assure you.. it was very yummy ^_^

Excelent commercial photography and graphics. This is a work of art and you better guard this one. Hershey just might nab this one up, hey, some money for your pocket, give it a go.

Beautiful work.!!!

Mike

This is the famous Hershy bar. The bar of bars...
I think this version would do -very- good for advertising purposes. I can see the soft and shiney texture of the chocolate, how I would love to take a bite, I can almost tast it. And can't really comment about what is so good about this one, so manny things I would skip some. What I can tell, I can't find any thing wrong.
A really good piece of work, my compliments!
See you again, Richard

Oh my God! I bet that if the guys from Hershey saw this one they would hire you on the spot!!! Are you sure you don't want to have a carrear in advertising???
This is absolutely perfect. Excellent design, light, pp work all packed in a great production!!!!
I love this one! I really love it!! I must save it, to see if I can learn something!!!
Bravissima cara!!

Ana

PS: Yeah, we lost, I still can't believe it... I should be here crying, but chocolate always cheers me up :o))

Very creative Ayda ;-) I like the effect of this one. It looks so professional to me what a good contribution to the hunt. Well done!!!

Jos

Hello Ayda,
I want to eat that chocolate.. Very well presented :)
PP work is really effective.. I think the original is very good at composition, that's why this came out so great!
Congrats!

Beautiful ! I hope you ate it after all that work, Ayda.

Hope you feel better soon.

Marleen

Great work Ayda would love to tast one of these famous bars but don't think you get them in the UK. Great pp work. And you are so right a little light relief is wonderful now and again. TFS

Excellent shot and PP work, very commercial, I hope Hershey will pay you for this. :) Nice composition and very artistic. Just Superb... Thanks for sharing.

Brilliant! What could be more delicious then chocolate? Good choice for the hunt, Ayda! The actual realisation is very very nicely done. You're a professional!
Best wishes,
Annelies

Ok... You made it... Turn a simple chocolate bar, into an artistic add! Congratulation! It's workfull!
I enjoy the overall art. Simple lines, but so workfull!

Hi Ayda,
Nice one! I like the pp you did. The inverted b&w seems to address people's surreal feelings about chocolate. And the colored side reminds me of the actual experience of eating it. Mmmm... Dark chocolate is actually my favorite, but, I wouldn't mind eating this right now, either!
Good work!
Richard

are you trying to change to add industry? ;-)))
You have elicited me to buy this chocolate... where can I buy it? What a pity.. in Italy there is not this brand.... ;-)))
you success also in this ... no other words...

Heww... this is too funny. I was eating a hershey bar when I opened your photo. I was freaked out. Wow... nice work here Ayda.

DAM

I'm leaving... got hungry!!!

You've got an impressive picture, just adding borders to a common macro shot!!!
You are indeed a great artist, and your knowledge of PS techniques is fantastic!!!
Thank you for sharing!!!

Hi, Ayda. Add me to your fan club! This is so good. You really are an artist, in the truest sense. Do you work in that field? If not, you should. You have a real gift. Plus, I love all of the poetry you have used as notes in your other shots. Sara Teasdale, for instance, is one of my favorites. The poets of yesteryear conveyed so much meaning and music in their words. The rhythms are very comforting, and the emotions expressed never change over time.

Anyway, the photo is great. Enough said? :)
Gayle

This could be a commercial poster, very professional job. The image is very creative and the dual tone treatment fantastic. Very well done!
Vassilis

Another great one Ayda
All i can say is excelent job.
Bravo

Hello Ayda. I don't have any experience with this kind of creative/very elaborated post processing, but your photographs (and notes, great notes) really lead me to give it a try. I'm definitly benefiting from the notes you share and you're becoming my personal Photoshop encyclopedia. THANK YOU. I agree with Ana. Hershey should take this for an advertising. Excellent graphical compo.

Hi Ayda,
I love it. The graphical quality is very high as is the matching frame. BRAVO!!!

Ooh! Chocolate. Did you have to make the photo this BIG. My mouth is watering and now I've got a craving.
I think Hershey just found themselves a new graphic designer to hire. This is awesome. Looks like a professional did this. Well done Ayda. Your extensive notes are very much appreciated. Nice to see you are feeling create these days.
I'll come back tomorrow.

Hi ayda,
I just loved this one. I know it's a common place but I'm addicted to chocolate and I think your photo just gave a peak of endorphines :))
It feels good...

All the best, Stef

aha, you work for the chocolate factory !! excellent PP work here and a lot of work , but you did great here ayda !!

Ayda,

you know this is the work of a professional graphics artist. If that's not what you do for a living, perhaps you should consider switching jobs. This is probably one of the best pieces of PP I have seen on here. It is so stylish, so fashionable and to my eye it'll still look good in 50-years from now!

Just fab!

Speachless...

Lance

I can see the ad now -- "Nothing's in black and white when it's chocolate!". Excellent post-processing. Very tasty!
Michael

The already long gone chocolate-bar ;-)
Its been said that chocolate can be very helpful when your emotions have a dip. And see... only a nibble set you to great creativity ! What must it be after a whole bar ? ;-) Very artful and commercialy potential picture Ayda !
Thx for the detailed note.

Dynamite graphics and commercial work! Love the framing. Great artistic work....:O)

Hi Ayda, I couldn't restrict from commenting this one! I love this composition! (If this is only the correct word for it...)
Did you study photography anywhere, I wonder? In my opinion, this is a very professional work, as well as your other photos.

Wow....Wow....Wow....This is a work of art....It's one of those pictures I can just sit an stare at. Beautiful work. Incredible....

Stephen

ida
you should work in advertising..this work is great, quite professional..bravo
loic

just excellent. so creative with spare clean lines. love the graphics and they seem well-planned. And all the notes are truly appreciated, so thanks. I'm still slowly stumbling forward in PhotoShop where some things I don't know anything about confuse me more than others. Your notes really help answer some of my questions and/or solve a dilemma. (what I wouldn't do for a bite of one of those Hershey bars about now!). Great work, take care -- ck

you're right, you can't go wrong with a subject like this! :) i'm impressed with how well you executed the post-pro on this pic. very clean and well done - i especially like the translucent grey inner border. this is a very creative, classy and unique way to present such an ordinary everyday item. good job Ayda!
cheers
- Tina

Very professionnal work Ayda, 7/7, very nice. I am jalous!!
Best regards
Guy

questa è sicuramente la mia preferita, sebraun pubblicita :)
