Hiking the Narrows of Zion National Park is not for everybody and at first I didn't think it would be for me either. Most people who hike this "river trail" are equipped with sturdy ankle supporting, waterproof boots and often carry a large walking stick or poles. While hiking the Narrows, at times, your trail is literally the Virgin river and if the water is as muddy as it was when I was there, every step is an adventure.
When I arrived at the start of the "trail" I figured I turn back as I was not equipped like many of the others, but when I saw just about everybody, including children, having a go, I did too. Next thing I knew, I had gone probably almost a mile in. What makes the Narrows so special is the canyon. As you navigate the river the canyon walls begin to close in around you and become extremely narrow. If you find the people in this shot they will provide a good sense of scale of how big the canyon walls really are.

PP: Processed in Capture NX from RAW to reduce some bright spots.

Hi Mike,
I love the composition and detail in this shot. The people really do provide a good scale to show massive these walls really are. I love the POV. Nice work.
Regards,
Kevin

oh, what a capture of the canyon's surface, Mike. a very beautiful colour and detail here. it's so gigantic, comparing with the trekkers down there.

Hi Mike,
Love your shot! ^^
It's very beautiful!
Well done

Good luck

Mieky,

Hi Mike,
Great composition and lights. It's very good that you include people in the photo to fully appreciate Narrows size. Well done!
Cheers, Andriy

Hello Mike !

Indeed the inclusion of people is making the difference here. Otherwise, we would have absolutely no idea of the gigantism of the narrows. The rocks at the bottom look like small gravel.

Great timing, light balance and natural tones.

Hi Mike
What is amazing is how the colors of your RAW image become richer with processing. My first look at this one right off the disk didn't jump off the monitor like this does. Pretty outstanding. The lighting at the top of the canyon gives the impression that you near the top of the walls.

Hi Mike,
Yes, Zion is a beautiful place, the landscape is amazing there, perfect place to hike. You captured very interesting formations with splendid warm colours, sharp edges and good light.
Well done! TFS.
Greetings,
Kristof

muy buen efecto de profundidad y bellisimo lugar..

Stunning place and a terrific capture; this is one situation where I am glad there were other people in the shot. The sense of (immense) scale given to the location is terrific!
Your POV conveys an excellent sense of what it must be like to be there.

The scale ... the point of view ... lilliputiens. Great shot.

What an amazing view Mike. I have read about this trail.
It's interesting that you say it was less harrowing than expected.
Perhaps I should include it on my upcoming trip.

Great low POV, love the wide agnle here.
Excellent shot.
