Checkerboard Mesa

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
After my visit to Zion National Park I determined you could divide the park into 2 unique sections. There is the canyon and the east entrance. Each has its own unique beauty and geology. One of the most interesting sights on the east side is the Checkerboard Mesa. The mesa's unique look is due to a phenomenon known as cross bedding.
The mesa is often photographed so my goal was to get something a little different. In this shot I used a polarizing filter to enhance the sky and saturation of the amazing colors before me. I laid down in front of this rock in the foreground using my 12-24mm ultra wide angle lens. As a result of using the lens, distortion flattened out the mesa making it look like a plank. Not sure if this is effective or not. Perhaps you'll let me know. |

Hi Mike,
Unique landscape in the Zion National Park. Perfect sharpness and great colours with warm tones. The POV is fantastic and the vertical positioning of the subject fits very well here. Splendid photo, impressive scene. TFS
Best wishes,
Kristof
